Years of Fire find new singer
December 13, 2006
Jason Hager, guitarist for Cleveland’s Years of Fire, (ex-Shenoah, Chimaira, Ringworm) has checked in with the following update:

”Just wanted to let you all know that our singer search is over. Kent Young of Columbus, Ohio's Buried By Angels has taken the vocal position for Years Of Fire and we couldn't be more stoked. Kent's been a long time fan and wanted to audition, and after hearing the songs Buried by Angels recently recorded at Cole's studio we knew pretty much right away that he was the guy for the job.

He came up this past Sunday and laid down new vocal tracks to the songs "In The Eyes Of God" and "Reign Of Freyja," and while keeping to what Chris had, Kent definitely added his own touch to the songs. We felt at this time we wanted you all to hear what he sounds like on our current material since you'll be hearing him on those songs live. We'll write and record new stuff soon enough, so sit tight.

And with the excitement of bringing in Kent also adds a sad feeling of losing Chris, who has helped to make this band what it is and I'm sure anyone who has seen us live will agree that his leaving is a great loss. The mark he left on the band will definitely carry on with us into all our future endeavors. To say we'll miss him is an understatement.

Chris has always been and will always be a great friend and brother to us all. We wish him nothing but the best in life.

Our show Dec. 29th with Dead Even and Above This Fire will be our final hometown show with Chris and we want ALL of our fans to do what they can to make it out and show Chris the respect he deserves and make it the show to remember. He will also be playing our show in Columbus Jan. 5th when we play with Kent's other band Buried By Angels, so we better see all of our Columbus area fans there.

So with that said we want to welcome Kent to the family and say farewell to a great friend and frontman. We're excited for what the future holds and nothing is going to stand in our way!"

You can check out the songs “In The Eyes Of God” and “Reign Of Freyja” with vocals from their new singer here:

HOME TOWN: Cleveland, OH
Chris Wood (vocals)
Jason Hager (guitar)
Cole Martinez (guitar)
Ben Hollowell (bass)
Brian Hanculak (drums)

Formed in the spring of 2005 by ex-Chimaira guitarist/co-founder and former Shenoah guitarist and founder Jason Hager, Cleveland, Ohio's YEARS OF FIRE is a band on a simple mission - To destroy everything in their path and to show people what metal is all about!

The name YEARS OF FIRE was taken from Hager's old band Ascension which he was in with Chimaira guitarist Matt DeVries and Years Of Fire's vocalist Chris Wood. "The Years Of Fire" was the title of the first "real" non-demo release I ever put out, since I've explored other areas of music and have found myself pulled back to my roots, it's only right to pay tribute to a time where it all started and where I came from." Says Hager.

However Years Of Fire is more than just one man's vision - it is five individuals coming together as one beast lashing out at the world in the only way they know how. Guitarist Cole Martinez and Hager belt out riff after brutalizing riff, feeding off of each other adding their own influence to each others ideas to make it an even more devastating display of aggression. The music is held together an taken to an explosive level by the drumming of Brian Hanculak and bassist Ben Hollowell (ex Ringworm/Shenoah). Together the four of them create a sound that hits you like a cheap sucker punch and keeps pounding you till the very last note.

This can only be topped off by vocalist Chris Wood who's vocal styling is just as unique as his intense stage presence. Wood's voice has a level of brutality that is matched by very few. Intelligent lyrics belted out in a way that reeks of hospitality and pure conviction.

Years Of Fire just recently entered Conquistador Studios in Cleveland, Ohio which is owned by Martinez to record their debut EP. The five songs captured in that time are definitely leaving their mark on the music world. When word first got out about the band forming expectations we're high, and by the reaction of the fans it's safe to say that Years Of Fire not only lived up to the expectations but exceeding them.

With everything going on in the world today, and with all the current fashionable trends popping up in metal the time is right for Years Of Fire. We live in aggressive times of war and fear of what tomorrow may bring and the people need something that puts sound to their emotions. Years Of Fire are creating the soundtrack to the feelings people have inside of them and giving them something that they can relate to in their own personal lives. Simply put , there's no eyeliner, no bullshit, just pure 100% American Made Metal! These are indeed the Years Of Fire!
