Folie Circulaire
Withered To Support EyeHateGod
April 13, 2010
Atlanta's black doom kings, Withered, have been tapped to support the notorious EyeHateGod for a handful of shows in June. Nachtmystium also appear on most dates. The band had been off the road since last summer's failed "Blackened Fest," with Mayhem, but in mid-March did a mini-tour to Texas, where they appeared at Prosthetic's official South By Southwest Showcase and a Brooklyn Vegan party in Austin, and Brofest in Dallas.

Guitarist/vocalist Mike Thompson commented on the March: "We had a couple of shows before and after SXSW. We stopped at "The Bar" in Metairie, LA on the way down. It was our first show since last August so we were very eager to perform. The show was great. The next day was SXSW then we headed down to San Antonio the next day. We were fortunate to meet up with our friends in Javelina & Howl. Great bands. The crowd was great despite being small. Then, we headed up to Dallas to play at Brofest. It was a mix between metal bands and indie rock on two stages. It was a great event and we received great crowd response. Overall, the entire trip was very successful. Well, outside of having to replace our trailer axle in Austin. We can't wait to get back out on the road, especially with new material."

w/ EyeHateGod:
6/03 - Back Booth- Orlando, FL

w/ EyeHateGod, Nachtmystium:
6/04 - Ground Zero- Spartanburg, SC

Withered Added To Mini Marduk Tour, Plot Next Album
June 20, 2009
The Atlanta-based "tortured blackened doom" quartet Withered, whose latest album 'Folie Circulaire' – named one of Decibel's Top 40 releases of 2008 – is now available on gatefold double vinyl, will serve as direct support for black metal legends Marduk in August. These are "make-up dates" for Marduk, who were unable to receive their American work visas in time to participate in the inaugural Mayhem-headlined Blackenedfest tour, which saw Withered also perform alongside Cattle Decapitation and Cephalic Carnage.

Despite having to return home from Blackenedfest earlier than originally anticipated, Withered guitarist/vocalist Mike Thompson is grateful for the opportunity. "The past year has been just amazing for us," he says. "We were honored to support Watain as they spread their disease last fall; we participated in three of the greatest metal festivals in the U.S. [the Scion Rock Fest, the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and the Maryland Death Fest]; we just finished supporting Mayhem's triumphant return to U.S. soil; and now we will be joining Marduk for their first run of make-up dates in light of the sudden and unfortunate ending of Blackenedfest. We couldn't have chosen a better way to support the recent release of our 'Folie Circulaire' double LP and can't wait to get back on the road. We'll be writing a new album for the rest of the year, so this will be a great ending to this touring cycle."

Withered w/ Marduk, Black Anvil:
8/12 - Sonar – Baltimore, MD
8/13 - Johnny Brenda's – Philadelphia, PA
8/15 - Gramercy Theater – New York, NY (w/ Tombs)

'Folie Circulaire' was produced by Kylesa's Phillip Cope (Baroness) and mastered by Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed), features artwork by Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Acacia Strain), guest vocals by Napalm Death front man Barney Greenway on the track "The Fated Breath" and a cover of Necrophobic's "Into Armageddon."

Withered Prepare For Extremely "Fest"-ive Spring Touring
February 16, 2009
The "tortured blackened doom" Georgia quartet Withered – who recently wrapped up a national tour with Watain and labelmates Book of Black Earth, and whose recently released 'Folie Circulaire' was named one of Decibel Magazine's Top 40 albums of 2008 – is currently preparing for a busy spring that will see the band play three of the most significant metal festivals of the season.

First up is the inaugural Scion Rock Fest, which takes place later this month in the band's Atlanta hometown. There, Withered will play alongside Mastodon, Neurosis, High on Fire and many more. Says vocalist/guitarist Mike Thompson, "We're incredibly excited to be a part of this. Big thanks to the Scion crew (especially Adam) for inviting us to participate in this unprecedented event. Hell, I couldn't have put together a better lineup myself. I've never attended, much less performed at, a fest where there were so many bands I'd climb over my own mother to see live! This one will be truly historical for Atlanta, and for this generation of hard rock/metal fans."

Soon after, Withered will perform on day two of the 11th Annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Mass., where they'll play alongside Lamb of God, Children of Bodom and many of the band's Prosthetic Records labelmates. On the way to and from New England, the band will also play a handful of headlining shows. "It's great to be a part of this fest, as we had a blast in 2006 and can't wait to do it again," Thompson says. "The lineup looks fantastic and it'll be great to rub elbows with the likes of Napalm Death, Suffocation and all the other incredible bands playing. New England is one of the oldest events in extreme music, and everyone should experience it at least once in their life, so make it out if you can and have a few beers with us."

Finally, Withered was just announced as one of the participants in the inaugural "Blackenedfest," which will see the band team up with Mayhem, Marduk, Cattle Decapitation and Cephalic Carnage for a month-long tour. "We're very honored to take part in this tour," Thompson says. "Mayhem, Marduk, Cephalic and Cattle Decap are all veterans of extreme metal, and each has had a significant impact on the scene. Just being around these bands everyday will help drive our focus and performances to new levels. We'll be faced with warming up the crowds each night, but it's a welcome responsibility. It'll be great to see our fans again while also, hopefully, earning some new ones. We'll be performing selections from both of our full-length albums, and we might even pull out a new song or two just to give our dedicated fans something fresh to chew on. We'll see everyone on the road!"

Four tracks from 'Folie Circulaire' – including a cover of Necrophobic's "Into Armageddon" – can currently be streamed on the band's Myspace page. The album was produced by Kylesa's Phillip Cope (Baroness), and it features artwork by Paul Romano (Trivium, The Acacia Strain, Mastodon).

HOME TOWN: Atlanta, GA
Chris- Vocals & Guitar

Mike T.- Vocals & Guitar
Beau- Drums

Formed in early 2003 by Chris Freeman and Mike Thompson (founding members of the political/crust/grind outfit, Social Infestation also featuring Troy Sanders of Mastodon). Coming out of a dark period riddled with death & depression, they were driven to explore the darker attributes of life and created a torturous yet liberating form of music. they accomplished this by combining norwegian black metal anguish, early swedish death metal riffing, modern american doom, and dramatic guitar melodies all while still clinging to their punk and grind roots. to culminate this, they needed an unrelenting percussion force. they called upon long time friend and accomplished drummer, Wes Kever (ex puaka balava w/ Mike T.). after writing a few songs they realized it was time to find the bassist that could audibly obliterate their listeners. They called upon Greg Hess (ex leechmilk). His menacing sludgy background helped cultivate withered's intense sound. withered immediately started touring and stirring up a frenzy in the eastern US with a 3 song demo.

Lifeforce records caught wind of the bands efforts and a contract was inked in early '05. their debut album "memento mori" was released in fall 2005 and gained incredible praise throughout the world. Decibel magazine gave "Memento Mori" the 4th position in their "top 40 albums of 2005". Every song on "Memento Mori" reminds you that death is patiently awaiting your inevitable arrival and that you can either welcome it with open arms or be dragged into it kicking and screaming. Songs like "the fear and pain that cripples me" are an unrelenting force of grind and metal while the almost nine minute epic "like locusts" embraces the darkest corners of life & conciousness with lulling guitar melodies, majestic riffage, and blistering verses.

2006 was a tough year. Withered parted ways with Greg Hess and Wes Kever just after completing a successful tour supporting Vital Remains and Dismember. They had to step down due to their family obligations and inability to tour at Withered's pace. In Early '07, withered recruited Mike Longoria and Beau Brandon. Both hail from El Paso, TX (eventually moving to Atlanta) where they had known each other for decades and had played together in numerous bands (founding member's of Waited). Their history together provided the foundation for creating a formidable rhythm section. They have been able to over-fill some pretty big shoes left behind by Hess and Kever and have taken withered's music to the next level.

In December '07, withered signed to Prosthetic records. their 2nd full length has already been named one of the top 25 most anticipated albums of 2008 by Decibel magazine. "Folie Circulaire" will be released in the spring/summer of '08.
