Album Releases

Vanna Post New Song Online
March 2, 2009
New England post-hardcore band have posted their first song “Safe To Say” from their sophomore album, 'A New Hope', which is set for release on March 24th, on the band’s Myspace page. Produced and mixed by Steve Evetts (Every Time I Die, Our Last Night, Story of the Year) and mastered by Alan Douches (Converge), 'A New Hope' emphasizes the band’s heightened musical abilities, balancing a perfect blend of emotive rock and perilous hardcore with refined precession.

Since the release of Vanna’s fan-favorite debut EP, 'The Search Party Never Came', and their follow-up full-length, 'Curses', the band has been on a continuous musical journey, evolving, exploring and maturing with each release and tour. With the experience of using what works and letting go of what doesn’t, the band tackled the writing and recording of 'A New Hope' with an added perspective and understanding.

“The writing and recording process naturally becomes more dialed and decisive with each record,” explains lead vocalist Chris Preece. “This record was approached with more of a group mentality. We talked a lot about what we liked and disliked about our last two releases, and each one of us were able to express ourselves in every step of the process. We locked ourselves in our practice space for two months, everyone threw out song ideas, and the ideas were fleshed out into something that we were all happy with. All of our individual influences and inspirations played a big role creatively.”

'A New Hope' Tracklisting:
1. Let's Have An Earthquake
2. Into Hell's Mouth We March
3. The Same Graceful Wind
4. Like Changing Seasons
5. Trashmouth
6. Safe To Say
7. We Are Nameless
8. Sleepwalker
9. Where We Are Now
10. Ten Arms
11. Life and Limb
12. The Sun Sets Here

Creativity abounds. 'A New Hope' will grab Vanna’s core fans with catchy songs fueled by intense breakdowns, while their accessible melodious song-writing will open the door to a new audience.

Continually elevating their game, Vanna have raised the musical stakes with a bombardment of twelve tracks that invoke a deluge of sensations. Preece’s guttural screams and Evan Pharmakis’ (guitarist/vocals) melodic choruses seamlessly duel on tracks like the epic post-hardcore anthem for the ages, “Safe To Say,” and the sweeping hit “The Same Graceful Wind.” The fast, ferocious work of guitarist Nick Lambert, bassist Shawn Marquis and drummer Chris Campbell provide a wall of intense sound on tracks like “Thrashmouth” and “Life and Limb.”

Vanna's undying passion for creating and growing musically has resulted in one of the best post-hardcore releases in years. Resistance is futile.

The Human Abstract Annouces Tour With Dir En Grey
October 25, 2008
The Human Abstract’s tour with Trivium and All That Remains has come to a close, and they’re excited to announce their upcoming tour with the Japanese goth/metal rockers Dir En Grey that will run from November 7th to December 5th. Even prior to the start of the tour, it is almost completely sold out! The Human Abstract and Dir En Grey are the only two bands on the tour package and The Human Abstract will be playing a 45 minute set complete with a projector and a video show with material shot and edited by Michael Grodner. The band has also added a new song on their myspace from the new album, 'Midheaven', called “This World is a Tomb” in anticipation of the launch of the tour.

Drummer Brett Powell said of their tour with ATR/Trivium, “We haven't been on a tour that was as united as this one in over 2 years. It’s awesome to be best friends with people in bands that we have aspired to tour with ever since we started playing music. We have been on Tour with All That Remains 3 times now and just spent the last 3 months with them including Warped Tour. Its going to be strange not being able to see them for a while since we're so used to drinking whisky, watching baseball playoffs, and rocking out on stage together every single night.”

The band is out on the road in support of their album, 'Midheaven', which was released August 19th on Hopeless Records.

HOME TOWN: Los Angeles, CA

AJ Minette (guitar)
Dean Herrera (guitar)
Kenny Arehart (bass)
Brett Powell (drums)

Residing in a city where vanity and personal assets are more important than sincerity and ability, Los Angeles natives, The Human Abstract approach music with a new attitude. With technical proficiency and an undeniable candor, the five piece band has managed to clearly distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack. While taking influence from both European and American Metal, The Human Abstract provides an intense and progressive sound that will inspire and move you.

The combination of advanced technical musicianship and intense creative drive has proven to be the catalyst that places them well above the expectations of most L.A. metal/hardcore. The band avidly denies the mythos that the metal scene is uneducated or uninterested and offers a refreshing artistic approach not found in many other projects.

Soon after forming, the group recorded a two song demo and hit the local venues with a relentless do it yourself attitude. Shortly thereafter, the same relentless drive and passion that defines The Human Abstract began to attract a local die hard fan following along with the attention of some great producers, Jonny Santos (ex-Spineshank, current Silent Civilian vocalist) and Logan Mader (ex-Soulfly, ex-Machine Head). The band, always looking forward to continue progressing recorded a new three-song demo and quickly caught the attention of Los Angeles Punk/Indie label Hopeless Records.

The Human Abstract not only provide their memorable and timeless songs in intriguing recordings, but they also bring them out full force in an intense and unbridled live show. The spastic motions and uncontrollable head-banging, both on and off the stage, are a testament to their passion and love for both music and their audience. The band has now created a substantial following and dominated the local scene by regularly headlining local venues. With Hopeless Records behind them The Human Abstract are now taking the next step to spread that out and bring their music to fans everywhere.
