Megadeth, Slayer To Play 'Rust', 'Seasons' On Carnage Dates
April 26, 2010
Megadeth and Slayer, who last toured the U.S. together 19 years ago on the "Clash of the Titans" extravaganza, have confirmed that they will each perform, start to finish, their 1990 releases - Slayer's world-wide, million-selling 'Seasons In The Abyss' and Megadeth's Platinum 'Rust In Peace' - on the upcoming Canadian and American Carnage Tours. The six-date Canadian Carnage kicks off July 23 in Quebec City, while the 19-city American Carnage dates begin August 11 in Glens Falls, NY (complete itinerary is below). With Slayer and Megadeth co-headlining, Testament will be Special Guest on all dates.

Tickets purchased for the Canadian and American Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Complete information regarding ticket sales can be found at www.slayer.net - www.megadeth.com - www.testamentlegiions.com.

Nineteen hundred and ninety was one stellar year for fans of intense heavy metal, as both 'Rust In Peace' and 'Seasons in the Abyss' are considered to be among the genre's all-time classics. "War Ensemble," "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due," "Dead Skin Mask," "Hangar 18," "Seasons In The Abyss" - the preeminent list of metal standards that these two albums spawned has rarely been matched by others. Scroll down to see the original music video (shot in Egypt) for Slayer's "Seasons In The Abyss," and "Holy Wars," Megadeth's first music video from 'Rust In Peace'.

Slayer
scored a major breakthrough upon the original release of 'Seasons In The Abyss' (Slayer's fifth studio album overall), as it was the group' first album to hit the U.S. Top 40, and saw Slayer playing to the biggest crowds of their career on 91's "Clash of the Titans" tour.

Megadeth's
fourth album, 'Rust In Peace', saw the band cement their status as one of the most important metal bands with masterpieces like "Hangar 18" and "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due," as well as a top 25 debut on the Billboard charts. The album has been hailed as one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time with IGN recently naming it one of the most influential metal albums ever. Megadeth is now rejoined by original bassist Dave Ellefson and are firing on all cylinders.

The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be postponed due to Slayer vocalist/bassist Tom Araya's treatment for severe back pain, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. A surgical procedure in January corrected the problem once and for all, and he felt better almost immediately.

"Right after the surgery," said Araya, "I could tell that the issue was fixed. There's no more pain, it just feels really good. I'm really excited and I'm anxious to get together with the rest of the guys and start rehearsing again. We cancelled two tours, and I don't feel great about that, but I couldn't deal with the pain anymore, and that's now completely gone. I know the fans are excited to see the band - the tour is on, we're keeping our word, there will be no more cancellations."

American/Canadian Carnage Rescheduled Tour Dates Announced
February 1, 2010
Slayer and Megadeth are thrilled to announce the new, confirmed routing for the American Carnage North American Tour, which will commence with the rescheduled Canadian Carnage East dates in Quebec City on Friday, July 23. Slayer will then head to Europe for a run of festival dates, returning to kick off the American Carnage leg in Albany, NY on August 11. American Carnage will play 26 dates across the United States and Eastern Canada up to the Labor Day weekend, ending in Portland, OR on September 4. Testament will be Special Guest on all shows. Tickets purchased for the American Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for these rescheduled dates. Complete information regarding ticket sales can be found at www.slayer.net - www.megadeth.com - www.testamentlegiions.com

Due to venue availability and other conflicts, the shows originally scheduled in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth, and Louisville cannot be rescheduled at this time, and ticket holders may obtain refunds at point of purchase. However, new cities have been added to the American Carnage itinerary, with dates now scheduled in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego, and Sacramento. The confirmed, complete itinerary is below.

The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to Slayer's vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya's ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate. That surgery took place early last week.

"The doctors said that Tom's surgery went very smoothly and was a resounding success," said Rick Sales, long-time Slayer manager. "He's home now, doing really well, and he said the numbness in his fingers had already diminished considerably."

Shortly after the surgery, Slayer's Kerry King received a text from Tom: "Awake and feeling good, actually whatever he did, it feels better."

The American Carnage Tour will mark the first time that Slayer, Megadeth and Testament will have toured the U.S. together since 1991's epic "Clash of the Titans" tour, making this truly a "must-see" event.

Slayer recently announced the rescheduling of its headline tour in the UK and Europe, and Megadeth and Testament are currently on tour together playing U.S. cities that will not be on the American Carnage itinerary.

Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road on July 23 in support of their most recent albums: Megadeth's 2009 album, 'Endgame', and Slayer's 'World Painted Blood', the band's 10th studio venture, which hit stores November 3, 2009. Testament's 'The Formation of Damnation: Special Tour Edition', will be released on February 23, 2010 with special unreleased bonus tracks.

Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S., first with four explosive dates in June 2009 across Western Canada - "Canadian Carnage" - the first time the bands had toured together anywhere in 18 years - and then six co-headlining "Carnage" dates in Australia followed last October.

According to various Canadian press outlets last summer: "It was a night of thrash impossible to trash..." "Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun..." "The two heavy metal heavyweights...went head-to-head on a level playing field. Both bands brought their 'A' game. And the results were anything but pretty - unless you include pretty freakin' loud and pretty freakin' awesome."

The complete, confirmed itinerary for the American Carnage North American Tour is as follows:

Canadian Carnage East Dates:
7/23 - Pavillon de la Jeunesse - Quebec City, QC - Canada

Biography
YEAR FORMED: 1983
HOME TOWN: Oakland, CA
MEMBERS:
Chuck Billy - Vocals
Eric Peterson - Guitars
Alex Skolnick - Guitars
Greg Christian - Bass
Nick Barker - Drums

Testament was one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980's. Undoubtedly, they are the inventors of the thrash-metal wheel. Testament’s powerful sound, influence, and longevity make them one of the Top 5 All-Time Legendary Thrash Metal Bands, putting them in the company of Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, and Anthrax.

Testament is right now on the verge of signing a worldwide record contract to release an all-new album, which the band hopes to have in stores by March 2008!!! For this brand new record, the band has brought their original lineup back together – vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarists Eric Peterson & Alex Skolnick, and bassist Greg Christian – and have added Nick Barker (ex- Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir) on drums.

“It’s been a long time, but I’m glad we waited because we have pretty much the full lineup back, plus one of my favorite drummers in Nick” says Peterson.

“It feels like the band’s having a rebirth. I think we’re sounding better than we ever have. People that see the shows are quickly realizing this isn’t a nostalgia act, and that this group holds its own with anyone out there,” asserts Skolnick.

Nick Barker, though new to the band, is no stranger to the original members. “We met back in ’97,” says Barker. “We were on the same label at the time. We became drinking buddies and started hanging out. Being a fan of the band, I always used to go see them. At one show, they asked me to come up and play “Over The Wall.” After that, they asked me to join.”

Originally formed as 'Legacy' in 1983 by founding members Peterson (rhythm guitar), Derrick Ramirez (guitar) and Louie Clemente (drums), the line-up included vocalist Steve Souza and Christian (bass). Ramirez was later replaced by guitar prodigy Alex Skolnick (lead guitar). However, Souza left to join Exodus and suggested that the towering Chuck Billy take over as frontman. While recording their first record, the band adopted the ‘Testament’ moniker.

The band’s 1987 debut album, "The Legacy," thrust Testament to the front of the flourishing thrash metal scene. Following "Live At Eindhoven", an EP recorded at Holland's Dynamo Festival, "The New Order" in 1988 was well received, producing one of the band's most memorable classics "Disciples Of The Watch". Next came the highly successful "Practice What You Preach" in 1989, then the release of "Souls Of Black" in 1990.

After “The Ritual” in 1992, Testament saw many lineup changes. Clemente left, as well as Skolnick who left to pursue jazz music projects. The band persevered and continued to write and record new music. “Low” was released in 1994 with John Tempesta (ex- Exodus) on drums, and “Demonic” followed in 1997, this time with Gene Hoglan (ex- Death, Death Angel, Unearth) replacing Tempesta. The album was recorded at Testament’s Driftwood Studios. “Signs of Chaos,” a collection of Testament’s best tracks, was released in 1997.

For their next major release, Dave Lombardo (ex- Slayer, Grip, Inc.) was officially introduced into the band. James Murphy, who played guitar on “Low,” was brought back once again, along with the legendary Steve DiGiorgio (ex- Death, Control Denied, Sadus) on bass. "The Gathering" was born in 1999. Soon after, James Murphy abruptly departed, determined later to be the result of a serious illness. Steve Smyth (ex-Vicious Rumors) jumped aboard as 'touring guitarist', later to be invited to stay on as a permanent member. Lombardo also left the band, not being able to commit because of other projects. In 2000, Jon Allen (drums, ex- Sadus) joined the band.

After the "Riding The Snake" world tour to promote "The Gathering", vocalist Billy was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called 'germ cell seminoma' in March 2001. Despite his illness and grueling cancer treatments, Billy offered his ground shaking vocals to the re-recording of Testament classics on "First Strike Still Deadly" which brought back Alex Skolnick and John Tempesta to record on the disc.

Billy battled back from his sickness and has fully recovered. The band has been touring ever since late 2002, most recently wrapping up a wildly successful South American tour in 2007. Testament has been working hard on getting the new record together at the studio in their hometown, and they have very high expectations for it.

“Die-hard testament fans are gonna love it, without a doubt,” says Barker.

Adds Billy, “The new record is very heavy but very melodic at the same time. It’s an extension from “The Gathering”. We’re also incorporating solos cuz Alex is back and we haven’t had many on the last few records.”

“I’m real excited about the new record. There’s a lot of old-school/new-school ideas. It sounds very modern. I think all Testament fans will be pleased and more,” says Peterson.

Testament is once again ready to attack the music world with their trademark brand of thrash metal, and the band is very optimistic about their future together.

“It’s come full circle. We were together, moving strong, then we broke up and had several different lineups,” says Billy. “But now we got a new band, a new label, a new album, everything’s positive. Once the record’s done, I think it’s going to be a good year coming up.”
