Skinlab Cancel Remainder Of Tour Due To Illness
October 6, 2009
Bay Area heavy hitters, Skinlab, who have been on a national tour since 9/17 announced yesterday they have to cancel the remaining dates due to illness. Vocalist Steev Esquivel posted this on the band’s myspace page:

I went to the hospital last night after dealing with chest and lung pains for the last 2 weeks on tour. I thought it was just a cold and something that would pas but before the show in …Herkamir, NJ I decided to take myself to the Cooperstown Emergency Room.

I was told my condition was a severe lung infection that my body has not been able to fight, due to the tour schedule we’ve been dealing with and the nonstop lifestyle that I live just trying to make things happen for the band and so I can tour.

Bottom line is the doctors have told me I’ve pushed myself to the limit and was lucky enough to get treatment before this turned in to full blown pneumonia. Having been told that, I am completely bummed to announce that we are going to be canceling the remaining dates on the Sik World Tour.”

This is the first tour that I have personally cancelled due to any weakness and feel it’s best as I am just not representing Skinlab to its fullest.

With the dates currently being considered for make up , we will keep everyone informed of our tour schedule and future plans as were all on our way home to rest up.

Huge thanks to our new metal brothers in
Darksun (, Sik World Clothing for sponsoring the tour, and all the promoters and fans who have stood by us!

We will be launching a new contest with
Revolver Magazine and a prize pack from Peavey this month, so watch out for that, and we will be adding new merch designs to our online store."

Skinlab issued a second brief update yesterday afternoon, regarding the last 2 dates of the tour, via their myspace page:

"Metalheads, as you have heard, we had to cancel out tour. We are [still] planning on playing the 2 remaining Cali dates we have posted! As long as we are not sick anymore! lol."

The band was supporting their brand new album 'The Scars Between Us' just released on Stand And Deliver Records. Their first new work in several years, Fangoria Magazine proclaimed “hardcore fans will likely agree that 'The Scars Between Us' was worth the wait. The album grooves hard with a nice fuzz and a low end kick in the ass.”

Skinlab Checks In From The Studio, Announces Tour Plans
May 20, 2009
Bay Area bruisers, Skinlab, have issued the following update via the band's Official Myspace blog:

"Hey what's up everyone? Thought I'd come drop some news for everyone to chew on while we create this monster of an album. Right now things are coming along great!

After signing with Stand & Deliver Records, we decided to take a break from the recording process to finish writing a few more songs we hadn't completely finished writing. Which in turn has given us more time to work out parts on the other 9 songs that we had already started recording before signing our deal.

Sooooo, now that the ink has dried and we have found ourselves with a proper budget to record the album the way it should be, we have decided to get Paul back in the studio with his fresh new DDrum kit and smash the songs out again, basically starting from scratch with a new level of aggression and comfort knowing that he has more than 2 days to track 13 songs......Having said that recording has officially started ....AGAIN!!

Paul re-entered Trident Studios at the end of April and tracked all of his drums over again, with new shit and a new frame of mind, which ultimately helped out tons as he completely crushed his other tracks with pure confidence and fury!!

Snake and Glenny have been hard at work tracking guitars this last few weeks. Snake has also been engineering 'The Scars Between Us', this is a first for Skinlab but it's turning out great! He's been swamped in all the tracking making sure everything this is perfect.... Gotta give props out to Snake for his pure dedcation and petience in making sure this album is absolutly crushing.

Patience is definitely the key to making a great album and so far most of our time has been spent on detail and making sure tunings are perfect, to be on track.......we'll kinda. Since recording started we were busting ass to make our deadline of May 10th to finish everything.. but, we've decided that this album is much too important to rush just to get it out a few weeks earlier, so we have decided to push the release date back. No offcial date yet.....just be ready for a complete bruiser of an albm before the end of the summer!!

Tours are being set up as we speak, to kick things off we are super stoked to announce that we will be heading down to South America with Ill Nino and Skin Culture on the Project Independence tour in June. This is Skinlab's first time playing in South America, we're coming ready to fuck some shit up! It's been a long wait for our fans in South America we'll be sure to give them a show to remember!

After the Project Independence Tour is over we will be heading back to [the] States to play the Rockstar Mayhem Festival on July 10th in Sacramento, CA at The Sleeptrain Amphitheater, we will be playing on the Jagermeister Mobile Stage. After that we will be heading out on a full U.S run this fall.

That's it for now be sure to check out the newest drum blog on our page. Our good friend from Rokhedz[/b] has been documenting everything as we go, and we will keep you in the loop about recording sessions, new merch designs, album artwork, new tour dates and anything else that has to do with the new album: 'The Scars Between Us'......coming soon!! </FONT]

Perhaps at no time in America's history has the open expression of ideas and feelings been so imperative to the well being of the individual and, collectively, the world. Expression is so often inhibited or outright restricted by the dominant culture that most feel as though they don't have a voice that matters or that can affect anything of any consequence. Furthermore, there are precariously few vehicles of expression for those daring enough to present anything extraordinary or remotely contrary to popular culture. It is in light of this reality that Skinlab offer their fight songs in support of the voiceless: reVoltingRoom. The culmination of three years worth of writing, recording and touring, reVoltingRoom is not only Skinlab's heaviest record, but also their most mature and focused offering yet.Shortly after their formation in 1995, Skinlab recorded Bound, Gagged And Blindfolded, an album Terrorizer magazine described as "one of the most crushing debuts." Bound, Gagged And Blindfolded took the metal world by storm, beaming with a sound that was described by some as a dark, ominous hybrid of Machine Head and Neurosis, but with a style and intensity that transcended comparison. The Eyesore EP followed shortly thereafter, featuring the songwriting debuts of new guitarists Snake (formerly of Skrew) and Scott Sergeant, who were welcome additions after the departure of original guitarists Mike Roberts and Gary Wendt. In 1999, Skinlab and producer Andy Sneap returned to the studio to record Disembody: The New Flesh. The album established Skinlab as a bludgeoning unit, as intelligent as they were sonically heavy - a band only beginning to discover their collective creativity. Pummeling rhythms, crafty passages and arrangements, and an overall droning aura lead listeners from one sonic dimension to the next.Shortly before the band entered the studio to record reVoltingRoom, Sergeant departed the band and was quickly replaced by Glen Telford, formerly of Los Angeles' Wired Shut. The new line-up cemented and stronger than ever, Skinlab hit Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco and Trident Studios in Oakland with producer Steve Evetts (Sepultura, Hatebreed, Snapcase). A few months later, longtime associate Andy Sneap (Machine Head, Napalm Death, Earth Crisis) mixed the album, to create what Esquivel describes as "the most important record of our lives."One of the genre's true road warriors, Skinlab has toured alongside some of the most respected metal bands, past or present, including Coal Chamber, Machine Head, Kittie, (hed)p.e., and Earth Crisis.Through years of touring and releasing records, Skinlab have been on a quest to express themselves through music, which in turn has established a forum through which the band can communicate with kids across the world. While music, in theory, serves as an apparatus to open a dialogue, Skinlab sought to make this dialogue more tangible, so they opened "the reVolting Hotline," a toll-free number through which callers could express themselves. All forms of expression were encouraged: rants, raves, spells, diatribes, jeremiads, social commentary, curses and invocations of Armageddon. Skinlab selected their favorite screams, whispers, joyous releases of exaltation, and heart-wrenching cries of futility and discontent to be included as audio tracks on reVoltingRoom. It goes without saying that the revolution of expression doesn't begin or end with a band or an album. Expression comes in many shapes, from the political to the personal, on levels both micro- and macro-, and in all forms of media from written, to spoken, to painted and beyond. reVoltingRoom is merely the collective sonic expression of a single quartet, but it is the primary application of the principles the album so vociferously promotes. The revolution must start sometime, somewhere and somehow.Open your eyes, ears and mouth - Let the revolution begin.
