Parkway Drive Set To Unleash 'Deep Blue' In June
May 13, 2010
Australia's masters of metalcore, Parkway Drive, are set to cement their reputation as one of the most dominant exponents of heavy hardcore on the planet with their third album, 'Deep Blue', which is ready for release on June 29 via Epitaph Records. Check out the album's trailer which features new music from 'Deep Blue' here or watch it below.

The hotly anticipated follow-up to 2007's 'Horizons', 'Deep Blue' raises the bar in every conceivable way. While maintaining the band's uncompromising metallic-hardcore style at its core, it pushes into exciting new realms, drawing from a wider scope of influence, incorporating everything from anthemic pop-punk to bloodcurdling death metal.
With improved musical abilities and a thoroughly inspired approach to songwriting, Parkway Drive has tied the music and lyrics together into one all-encompassing concept.

"It's basically about the search for truth in a world that seems to be devoid of that," says vocalist and lyricist Winston McCall, explaining the narrative running through 'Deep Blue'. "The story is told through the eyes of a man who wakes up and realizes that his life is a lie and nothing he believes in is real. So he tries to find the truth within himself and his journey takes him to the bottom of the ocean and back again."

Having recorded their first two albums with Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage, 'Deep Blue' was tracked and mixed in Los Angeles, CA by Joe Barresi (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bad Religion, Tool), and mastered by legendary mastering engineer Brian Gardner.

Crisp, unprocessed and impossibly heavy, the production on 'Deep Blue' brings out every nuance of Parkway Drive's freshly re-focused sound.

"It's definitely the Parkway record I'm most proud of," claims Winston. "We felt like were in the deep-end recording with someone new, so to have it come out exactly how we wanted it, and pretty much exceed our expectations, is a big ask, but that's exactly what Joe did for us."

With 13 tracks in all, standouts include "Sleepwalker," "Deliver Me" and "Unrest." Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph Records owner Brett Gurewitz makes a guest vocal appearance on "Home is for the Heartless," which brings epic punk rock choruses and crazed metallic finger-tapping guitar work into the established Parkway paradigm.

"We figure that song is going to be the most polarizing thing we've ever written," Winston says. "People are either going to like it or they are going to hate it. I think it worked. That's one of my favorite songs on the record!"

'Deep Blue' Track Listing:
1. Samsara - 1:46
2. Unrest - 2:19
3. Sleepwalker - 4:01
4. Wreckage - 3:21
5. Deadweight - 3:47
6. Alone - 4:40
7. Pressures - 3:23
8. Deliver Me - 4:14
9. Karma - 3:49
10. Home Is For The Heartless - 4:08
11. Hollow - 3:01
12. Leviathan I - 3:50
13. Set To Destroy - 1:41

Already one of the most anticipated heavy releases of the year, 'Deep Blue' represents an exciting new chapter in the story of Australia's most successful hardcore band. Check out Parkway Drive all summer long on the Vans Warped Tour.

Parkway Drive Return Stateside To Record New Album
March 18, 2010
Australia's biggest metalcore band, Parkway Drive, has announced plans to return to the studio to record their third studio album, which is expected to be released later this summer via Epitaph Records. The long-awaited follow-up to 2007's hard-hitting breakout album Horizons was written in the band's hometown of Byron Bay over the past six months and will be recorded in Los Angeles with celebrated producer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion) over the coming weeks.

Determined to surpass previous efforts, Parkway Drive have gone all out in creating a complete listening experience. While maintaining the band's trademark sound at its core, their forthcoming album will weave music, lyrics and artwork together into a dense concept that flows from beginning to end.

"Writing with a concept in mind has given us more direction," explains Parkway Drive frontman Winston McCall. "Every song on this album was created with a definite purpose, as opposed to just writing a riff and building on that."

While McCall concedes the album's basic narrative - the tale of a man lacking direction in life who goes looking for answers at the bottom of the sea - is "kind of bizarre," he says the concept was flexible enough to open itself up to many far-reaching ideas.
"The ocean is where I find the most clarity," says the former bodyboard champion. "To go to the beach and sink into the water, the sound cuts out and you can just forget about everything. So I guess the concept is about cutting out everything and focusing on what's inside yourself."

Parkway Drive's
achievements are unmatched in Australian heavy music circles. After two huge-selling albums, 2004's Killing With A Smile and 2007's Horizons (the latter achieving Top 6 chart success in Oz), last year's Parkway Drive: The DVD was met with a typically rabid response. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart and achieved Platinum status within weeks. By year's end it was Australia's biggest selling local artist DVD and was crowned 'Best Music DVD' at the 2009 Rolling Stone Awards. US fans are taking notice as constant global touring has helped cement Parkway Drive's reputation as one of the most dominant exponents of heavy hardcore in the world today.

Having recorded their first two albums with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage), the forthcoming album finds Parkway Drive turning to seasoned veteran Joe Barresi. Known for his work with big-league rock acts including Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion and Tool, Barresi will handle the recording and mix at his home studio, JHOC (Joe's House of Compression) in Los Angeles, before renowned mastering engineer Brian Gardner (Avenged Sevenfold, Lamb of God, Nine Inch Nails) applies the finishing touches in Hollywood.

By that time Parkway Drive should be back on the road again. First stop is Europe and the UK throughout April and May, where they'll play their biggest headlining dates so far, before they make their anticipated return to the US for this summer's Vans Warped Tour.

Already top of the most hotly anticipated heavy releases of 2010, their forthcoming album promises to be a new and exciting chapter in the story of Australia's most successful metalcore band.

"This is the heaviest thing we've written, and at the same time the catchiest," McCall warns. "And while we always want to keep the definitive Parkway Drive sound, there are a couple of things that will hopefully add another dimension to what we do."

Suicide Silence Prepare For Warped Tour
January 21, 2010
One of America's premiere extreme metal bands, Suicide Silence, will soon strike fear into the hearts of today's impressionable youth as they take part in this summer's highly anticipated Vans Warped Tour. The group are excited to be one of the tour's most extreme acts and to have the opportunity to annihilate thousands of new faces each day. They will join a very diverse, impressive list of artists ranging from (the more commercial garbage like) Andrew W.K. and Sum 41 to the likes of Every Time I Die, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and fellow extremists Whitechapel, amongst many others. Be sure to either visit www.warpedtour.com or www.myspace.com/suicidesilence to view their complete touring itinerary.

Suicide Silence
will spend the next few weeks holed up together writing new material before embarking on a massive world tour this spring, which will see them hit territories such as Japan, East Asia and South America for the very first time.

Mitch Lucker
(vocals) further states: "Everyone in the Suicide Silence camp are so stoked for this summer's Warped Tour. Summer festivals are the best since it's all about jammin' in the sunshine, BBQs and parties. It's going to be a madhouse on wheels, so get ready. This year's lineup is definitely one of the craziest and heaviest, so we are honored to be a part of it. Suicide Silence is always full of surprises, so come out and see what we get into this summer. I promise we won't let you down!"

There is little doubt in anyone's minds that Suicide Silence are one of the frontrunners of the scene as they became one of the most extreme bands to ever debut in the Billboard Top 200 charts at such a high number, entering at #32 with over 14,000 units sold.

MEMBERS:
Winston McCall (vocals)
Luke Kilpatrick (guitar)
Jeff Ling (guitar)

Ben Gordon (drums)

Parkway Drive is a rural road located in the Australian countryside. This sparse lane dotted with spare houses and spitting distance from the crystal blue waters of Byron Bay has something dark bubbling away, unbeknownst to most a quintet of young men have crafted the sound of Australian angst, charged with melodic guitar flourishes that dip into punishing breakdowns, double kick, kung-fu drumming, thick rhythms and technical precision that delve across the genres of metal, hardcore and death. Brought about with the intention of playing a type of music that blends the intricate riffs and melodies of metal, with the conviction, emotion and breakdowns of hardcore, in the summer of 2003 Parkway Drive the band, was born.

The band has exploded through their homeland with their debut full-length, Killing With A Smile and seeks to conquer foreign shores this year. The album produced by Adam Dutkiewicz (of Killswitch Engage) had the band fly to Massachusetts last year for an intense two week recording period of twelve hours a day. The resulting album is a large and devastating aural evisceration through eleven tracks, even reflecting down to the artwork that shows a man bleeding out into the street. With a massive sound that encompasses Swe-death riffs, punishing breakdowns, thick rhythms, mayhem inducing blastbeats and a technical precision that borders on frightening, Parkway Drive transcend cliché labels like metal core with ease.

Killing With A Smile entered the Australian Independent charts as the # 2 release on and went on to be Australia’s highest selling extreme music release to date. The combined success of the album and the band’s amazing live performances saw them opening up for every notable American artist on tour in Australia including Bleeding Through, Alexisonfire, Shadows Fall, Every Time I Die, As I Lay Dying, Hatebreed and Evergreen Terrace as well as appearing at the Gold Coast Big Day Out festival. Parkway Drive are the standard-bearers for Australia’s new wave of extreme music and have led the charge of building the Australian hardcore scene into what it is today.
