Dimebag Art Tribute Coming to 'Ride For Dime'
July 9, 2006
According to a posting on RideForDime.com, Ride For Dime 2006 — a one-day event (to be held Sunday, August 20) which consists of a 52-mile motorcycle run in the morning followed by a live concert in Arlington, Texas — will be hosting the "Six String Masterpieces" "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott art tribute. "The exhibit will be touring with Ozzfest this year and then make its way to Dallas," reads a posting on the site. "Since Ozzfest won't be coming to Dallas this year, this may be your last opportunity to see these magnificent pieces of art. The exhibit was featured on MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball" recently hosted by Vinnie Paul. It will also be featured in Guitar Player magazine at the end of July. This exhibit is funded by donations so be generous. Tickets are now on sale."

The "Six-String Masterpieces: The Dimebag Darrell Art Tribute" includes the following:

* A collection of 50 guitars, hand-painted by world-famous rock stars and internationally known modern artists, including members of Metallica (Photo#1, Photo#2), Korn, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Rob Zombie, Disturbed.

* A charitable art auction to benefit a foundation dedicated to music, education and improving the lives of today's youth.

* A travelling entertainment attraction hitting major U.S. markets in 2006.

* A highly-publicized tour that will feature an art opening party and VIP reception in each city attended by participating artists, press, celebrities and entertainment industry personel.

The guitars will be auctioned off with proceeds going to a foundation dedicated to furthering music education.

Disturbed Frontman: 'Music Is A Reflection Of The World'
July 7, 2006
Disturbed frontman David Draiman was recently asked by San Bernardino County Sun writer Paul Andersen what his band would write about if the world suddenly turned peaceful and less chaotic. "Our lyrics have always been passionate about moments of life, passionate about the state of world events unfolding," Draiman replied. "For us, the music is a reflection of the world, of the concept of change. But we couldn't suddenly write love songs, songs about partying. We're more poignant, more serious than (singing about) finding a girl, drinking, driving fast, breaking up with that girl and falling off your skateboard."

Then he chuckled.

"That just wouldn't be us. Being dark, nasty and perverse are necessary elements in what we do."

"We've always been politically conscious, and we'd be remiss not to address those elements," Draiman said. "Even the cover of our latest CD, 'Ten Thousand Fists', designed by Todd McFarlane (creator of 'Spawn'), has those political elements, that vibe. That is also why we chose to cover Phil Collins' (Genesis?- Ed.) "Land of Confusion" — it is a perfect reflection of what is happening now, with these strange powers that be totally causing havoc in the world."

Disturbed are currently making their fourth appearance on the Ozzfest bill, having worked their way up from the second stage.

"It feels great to bring this massive congregation of the faithful together again, these hard rock and heavy metal fans," Draiman told the San Bernardino County Sun. "A lot of the time, it feels like a sort of summer camp. But we always try to make it a little bit more than that. In fact, we've altered the set considerably, using big staging and dramatic backdrops, doing different versions of our songs to invite a lot of crowd participation. After all, seats can be sedatives because they are so easy to fall into, and the multitudes can be harder to invigorate."

Draiman sighed. "You just have to give out more energy to affect and move them. Like the old saying goes, the harder you work, the greater the reward, and our reward is when they come away with that energy, feeling fulfilled deep in their hearts — even if we have to be tactful about it."

Disturbed: 'Land Of Confusion' Video In Final Stages
June 26, 2006
The video for Disturbed's cover of the Genesis hit Land Of Confusion is in the final stages of production, with renowned comic artist Todd McFarlane directing. The memorable Genesis clip used eerie puppets to poke fun at figures such as Ronald Reagan, and Disturbed singer David Draiman told Launch that the song's political content made a new version timely. "I think that that was part of the impetus of recording it," he said. "Danny (Donegan, guitarist) actually came up with the idea of trying it. I wasn't really all for it in the beginning. I'm not a huge Phil Collins fan. But I couldn't deny that the lyrical content of the song made sense and definitely fit the type of lyrical directions that I go in."

McFarlane has worked on the cover art for Disturbed's latest album, Ten Thousand Fists, and has previously helmed clips for Korn and Pearl Jam.

Behind-the-scenes footage of the video's production can be seen at Disturbed1.com and Spawn.com.

The video is expected to debut sometime in the next few weeks, with the song making its way to radio at the same time.

McFarlane is perhaps best known as the creator of the Spawn comics and toys.

His McFarlane Toys has created action figures of comic characters, movie monsters, and musicians.

Disturbed is co-headlining the main stage of this summer's Ozzfest, which begins Thursday (June 29) in Seattle.
