Soilwork Drummer Joins Project w/ Meshuggah Guitarist
May 21, 2010
Dirk Verbeuren, drummer for Swedish modern metal merchants Soilwork, recently commented on his performance on the bands upcoming album 'The Panic Broadcast'. He also revealed that he will be recording drums for Fredrik Thordendal of Meshuggah's second solo record to be released sometime later this year:

"Working on 'The Panic Broadcast' was a fantastic opportunity for me to be creative. The intricacy of the new material reminds me of Scarve, and my approach to the drums was similar in the sense that I tried to bring something a little unusual to every song. With this album, I feel like I truly found my musical path in Soilwork. It's definitely my most technically challenging work with the band and possibly my most dynamic performance so far. I'm super stoked about what we've accomplished!

As for recording with Fredrik Thordendal: "What a dream come true! Fredrik has been very supportive of my career for many years in many ways, and I respect him immensely both as a musician and songwriter. It was huge for Scarve to be asked to open for Meshuggah and we've been in touch ever since. When Fredrik asked me to be a part of the second 'Special Defects' record, I just couldn't believe it! Now that I have the Soilwork album under my belt, it's exciting to dive into a completely different challenge where my drum parts will be based on improvisation more than anything else."

'The Panic Broadcast'
is set to be released on July 2 (Europe) and July 13 (N. America) via Nuclear Blast.

Meshuggah, Soilwork, LoG Featured In Iron Man 2 Video Game
April 21, 2010
SEGA of America is excited to announce the full in-game soundtrack for the upcoming Iron Man 2 video game and release the second behind-the-scenes video.

Iron Man 2: The Video Game
comes complete with a high-energy soundtrack which takes the excitement and action to a whole new level of cinematic intensity. Coming out on May 4, 2010, Iron Man 2: The Video Game features an unreleased Lamb Of God tune as well as songs from some of heavy metal's hottest acts including:

"One of the ten most important hard and heavy bands" that's how the prestigious Rolling Stone Magazine describes Swedish sonic extremists Meshuggah. It is impossible to talk about experimental or avantgarde metal without mentioning this truly groundbreaking act: Meshuggah mix ultra-complicated rhythmic patterns with massive riffs and aggressive growls, combining Death Metal, Mathcore, Thrash and Progressive Metal to create their unique style. 'ObZen' is their newest offering and one thing is for sure: expect the unexpected. You could say that 'ObZen' is some sort of a best of album with fresh, new songs - but that´s only half the truth. 'ObZen' is once again a masterpiece of diversity and surprises. The band currently has their first ever live DVD/CD out on Nuclear Blast Records entitled 'Alive'.

With seven years and six albums behind them, Soilwork's increasing success has evolved from their initial status of a diminutive, yet promising Swedish extreme melodic metal band to their present position as one of the most popular and audacious entities to have explored new musical territories. Meticulously developing swift progressions, Soilwork establishes sounds without limits, outranking any competition and setting an untouchable musical standard. Living up to the best selling 'Natural Born Chaos' and the highly successful 'Figure Number Five', Soilwork instantly cracked the Billboard Heatseekers chart and were presented as One of The 25 Most Important Bands In Metal by Alternative Press magazine. Their new album 'The Panic Broadcast' will be released this July.

Rising above the sea of "flavor of the week" metal that is over saturating the industry, Buffalo, NY based Stemm is the band that delivers the fresh breath of air the metal world hasn't witnessed since the vocal pitch corrector was invented. Early on, Stemm found an ally in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) who took a liking to the band in the beginning stages of their musical career branding them as "The soundtrack to the UFC." The UFC uses the song for all Pay-Per-View events as well as many other Stemm songs from the bands musical library which is also heard as background music for UFC / SPIKE TV programs "Ultimate Fighter" and "Unleashed." Now, armed with their own national distribution deal which enabled the band to start their own label (Catch 22 Records) the release of their new album 'Blood Scent' has been unleashed to the world on their own terms. Power packed with crushing guitar riffs, a rock solid rhythm section and a vocal technique comparable to that of James Hetfield, Phil Anselmo and Corey Taylor all put together like some metal frankenstein monster, this new release from Stemm will surely have every metal head out there running to the store for a beer instead of the eyeliner!

The sound of Nova is exactly as you would imagine from the name. Big, bright and powerful. It's a heavy, anthemic, atmospheric and ever-shifting juggernaut that draws on the best of classic and contemporary hard rock. The band's growing reputation as an amazing live experience in conjunction with the breakout success of their debut album 'nepenthe' has garnered a dedicated following and mainstream buzz that continues to grow.

Hyro Da Hero
The Houston-born, Los Angeles-based rapper has a vision for music. Hyro's vision involves real rhymes about real life, music with a message, buoyant, bombastic beats and daggers shot right between the eyes of every fake MC on the scene. Hyro isn't afraid to tell it like it is. He'll call your favorite rapper out in one track, and then he'll shine some light on a major social problem in another. However, he's also apt to get the club bouncing with a grit and gusto that's classy and chock full of swagger. Hyro touched down in Los Angeles in November 2007, and he's been silently plotting his hip hop infiltration The critics have also spoken. Alternative Press named Hyro Da Hero One of the 100 Bands You Need to Know in 2009.

Pimp X
It started as an experiment in March of 2000, in a small 1 bedroom apartment in New Jersey. 6 songs were written in 3 weeks, and a strong fascination with DIY music composition using computers, electronics and other gadgets gave the world "Boba Fett" in June of 2000. Boba fett was released FREE to the world and was put on over 100 music and mp3 sites on the WWW. 3 of the 15 songs started popping up on dance charts in Europe. Including the song "Maya" which was one of the albums highlights telling the story through music (no lyrics) of a love that never could be by using mellow beats and jazz piano with samples from the movie "City Of Angels". Several albums later, Pimp X's last studio release 'Dosed' is scheduled for "sometime in 2010."

Meshuggah's 'Alive' DVD Debuts At #8
February 23, 2010
Sweden's most renowned technical extremists Meshuggah have done it again. Their first live DVD, 'Alive', has sold 3,000 copies since its release on February 9th and has debuted at #8 on the Nielsen SoundScan Top Music DVD Video chart. Sharing the Top 10 slots are Michael Jackson, Celtic Thunder, Reba McEntire, Celtic Woman, Beyonce, Pink, Il Divo, and Journey.

Shot by director/producer Ian McFarland of Killswitch Productions during Meshuggah's 2009 North American tour and their 2008 performance at the Loudpark Festival in Tokyo, Japan, Alive contains concert footage of selections from the band's Billboard Top 200-charting 2008 release, 'obZen', in addition to their time-tested career staples. Gracefully interlacing the live tracks are behind-the-scenes vignettes shot in black & white that give 'Alive' a concert film feel so unlike many of the live DVDs currently on the market. The result is a visceral, visual abduction into the band's metric insanity-in-action.

'Alive' comes with a bonus live audio CD containing twelve tracks.

Meshuggah 'Alive' DVD Trailer Posted Online
December 29, 2009
MÃÂ¥rten Hagström, guitarist for Sweden's revered and renowned technical extremists Meshuggah, checks in about the band's first-ever DVD, Alive, produced and directed by Ian McFarland of Killswitch Productions:

"So we finally got around to making a live DVD. People have been asking us to make one for ages it seems, so we guess it was about time. It was quite a different experience to have all those cameras around for those shows but in the end, we feel it really came out great in a 'not so flashy but more toward the gritty' type of way. More true to what we are about. Capturing what a Meshuggah show is like. For real... without the trimmings, so to speak... just the way both us and Ian wanted it. Enjoy!"

View the official trailer below.

"One of the ten most important hard and heavy bands? that?s how the prestigious Rolling Stone Magazine describes Swedish sonic extremists MESHUGGAH. It is impossible to talk about experimental or avant-garde metal without mentioning this truly groundbreaking act: MESHUGGAH mix ultra-complicated rhythmic patterns with massive riffs and aggressive growls, combining Death Metal, Grindcore, Mathcore, Thrash and Progressive Metal to create their unique style. Trying to categorize MESHUGGAH? Think again?Manic low-tuned riffs repeated in seemingly endless loops, desperate and aggressive growls and screams, and drum fills and patterns from another dimension ? these are some of the traits of character of ?Catch Thirty-Three?, MESHUGGAH`S latest attack on the central nervous system.Nobody could ever compare MESHUGGAH`S music to a walk in the park ? a slaughter in the park is more of a fitting comparison! A perfect example for this fine piece of Swedish madness is the opening track ?Autonomy Lost?: without caring for things like intros, a slow start or other niceties, MESHUGGAH immediately deliver exactly their full-tilt blaze of brutality and insanity! Using programmed drums for the first time in their career, MESHUGGAH`S sound hasn?t weakened a single bit ? if possible, it has even gained more aggression while coming across with an harsher and colder edge. Combining sinister and disturbing interludes with the sheer riff-massacre of tracks like ?Shed?, ?Catch Thirty-Three? and its bitter lyrical concept is food for seriously disturbing pictures in your head. Like the way you would watch a movie?, MESHUGGAH recommend to perceive their new body of work.It has been a long, long way for MESHUGGAH from their first steps into the world of all things audibly sick and twisted with their 1989 vinyl-only release "Psykisk Testbild? (now a highly sought-after gem for MESHUGGAH fans) up to their latest bone-crushing release, "Catch Thirty-Three?. In 1991, a broader audience took notice of a monster called MESHUGGAH when the self-titled debut mini-LP was released, shortly after followed by debut album "Contradictions Collapse?. "None? and the classic EP "Selfcaged? were next, but it wasn`t until 1995 and MESHUGGAH`S masterpiece album "Destroy Erase Improve? that almost the whole metal scene stood up in amazement and faced this incredible new force coming from Sweden. "Chaosphere? saw the band touring with Thrash Metal gods SLAYER in America and further established MESHUGGAH`S status as ?next big thing?. After the release of the rarities and demo collection "Rare Trax?, the band returned to America in support of their album "Nothing? this time playing in front of stunned "Ozzfest? crowds. Needless to say ? MESHUGGAH had conquered the U.S., just like they had conquered Europe before.
