Members Of Testament Schedule NAMM Appearances
January 14, 2009
After a huge year in 2008, all members of bay Area thrash legends, Testament, will be kicking off 2009 with appearances at this year’s NAMM show in Anaheim, January 16-18. Singer Chuck Billy, guitarists Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick, bassist Greg Christian and drummer Paul Bostaph will be on hand, signing autographs and talking about some of their favorite gear!

Eric Peterson will be on-hand when Dean Guitars unveils his brand-new Flying V Signature Model! “I’m very excited because I finally have a signature coming out,” said Peterson. “It’s a guitar I’ve been playing for a while, and I think people will enjoy the action. It’s got triple-binding, all-black EMG pick-ups, block inlay, and some really cool artwork. Not too much, but enough to keep it evil! I’m excited that some of my peers like Michael Amott, the guys in Trivium, Michael Schenker, and Dave Mustaine have joined up with Dean Guitars. Come on by the booth and say hello. AND BUY MY GUITAR!”

Chuck Billy – “This will be my fourth year at the Nady booth. There’ll be an autograph signing at 3PM. I’m there to promote some of Nady’s new products, since all wireless companies have new products coming out this year. I’ll be signing autographs, pictures, or whatever you’ve got!”

Alex Skolnick – “It’s exciting to be at NAMM this year. It’s great to have new albums to promote. I’ve always wanted to play at the Hilton, I never have (haha!). I’ll be in the Pulse Lounge off the main bar with my Trio as part of Doug Wimbish’s (Living Colour) WIMBASH. I’m also excited to demo products for Peavey/Budda Amps, Yamaha acoustic guitars, Heritage electric guitars, and others.”

This will be Testament’s last appearance before heading out the huge Priest Feast tour this February with Judas Priest and Megadeth. The full list of tour dates can be found below, along with the band members’ NAMM appearance schedule.

Additionally, singer Chuck Billy recently returned home from Amsterdam, where he performed classic Testament songs with a six piece band and 30-piece symphony orchestra. Videos of the performances ("Souls Of Black," & "More Than Meets The Eye") are available below.

Billy commented on the performance, saying: “It was a challenge I’ve wanted to pursue for a long time, since I’ve never had the opportunity to sing with an orchestra. The songs took a new life with them. The arrangements they came up with were really spooky and eerie. When I did the first rehearsal, I wanted to pay attention to the music ahead of the performance. It was so cool sounding, I was blown away. It’s definitely something I would like to try more with Testament.”

Testament will embark on the historic Priest Feast Tour across Europe with fellow heavy metal icons Judas Priest and Megadeth this February and March, which kicks off in Dublin, Ireland. Testament will also be headlining several off-dates along the tour. See below for the full list of dates.

Testament Recruits Glen Drover For Mexico Dates
October 23, 2008
Bay Area thrash legends, Testament, have recruited guitarist Glen Drover (ex-Megadeth, King Diamond) to fill in for Alex Skolnick on their upcoming Mexican tour dates with Judas Priest.

Due to Alex’s prior commitment to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the band sought out Glen Drover to fill in. The band rehearsed together all week and sounds sharper than ever!

Glen says, “I am really looking forward to playing these 4 upcoming shows in Mexico with my buddies in Testament, along with Judas Priest. We are totally going to crush!”

Alex Skolnick commented on his (temporary) replacement: “I regret that I'll be unable to perform at Testament's upcoming shows in Mexico this month. As many know, I've been touring with Trans-Siberian Orchestra since 2000, and it's been a blessing to be a part of both projects since reuniting with Testament in '05. I respect the Testament guys' decision to accept some gigs during this period, and I'm super happy to have Glen Drover filling in for me. I recommended him personally, respect his playing and know he'll do a great job. I apologize to any Testament fans for not being able to make it this time around but we have a lot of shows lined up in 2009 so far, all of which I'm on. Thanks for understanding, and I look forward to seeing everyone all over the world with Testament in 2009!”

Guitarist Eric Peterson commented: “I've known Glen since he played with King Diamond, and if anyone can jump in, Glen can. Plus, Alex is happy with our choice.”

Testament will be traveling to Mexico this week to play a string of dates with Judas Priest. See below for tour dates. The band is coming off a successful headlining run with Soilent Green, to support their first studio album in nine years, 'The Formation of Damnation'.

Judas Priest Announce 'Priest Feast' Tour
October 1, 2008
One of the worlds most popular and influential Heavy Metal bands – Judas Priest are set to rock the UK to it’s very core when they bring their ‘Priest Feast’ tour to play 7 arena dates in February 2009 with support from special guests – Thrash Metal veterans Megadeth and Testament.

Since 1974, Judas Priest has been one of heavy metal’s most successful bands, issuing such all-time classic albums as 1980’s ‘British Steel,’ 1982’s ‘Screaming for Vengeance,’ and 1990’s ‘Painkiller,’ and such arena-rocking anthems as “Breaking the Law,” “Living After Midnight,” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.” However, Priest’s influence goes far beyond their music - they were the first metal band to embrace the ‘leather biker look,’ a fashion that has since become synonymous with the musical genre. Additionally, Halford’s powerful four-and-a-half octave vocal range and the twin guitar harmonies of Downing and Tipton have been ‘studied’ by countless metal bands in Priest’s wake.

Think ‘Double vinyl, gatefold sleeve concept album,’ and some of rock’s all-time classic recordings come to mind. But in the realm of heavy metal, there has never been a double vinyl (now disc!) concept album that has managed to balance a thought-provoking storyline with metallic thunder. That was, until now. Metal legends Judas Priest released their sprawling double disc concept album, ‘Nostradamus’ via Columbia Records on Monday, June 16th in the UK/Europe, and a day later in the US on Epic Records.

As one of the most commercially successful heavy metal bands of all time, Megadeth have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, including six consecutive platinum albums, with seven consecutive Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance. Megadeth has remained a vital element in continuing to define and redefine the sound and the fury of metal music and with each new album, forges new ground and stretches the very boundaries where metal lives.

Testament was one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980's. Undoubtedly, they are the inventors of the thrash-metal wheel. Testament’s powerful sound, influence, and longevity make them one of the Top 5 All-Time Legendary Thrash Metal Bands, putting them in the company of Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, and Anthrax. They re-formed with the original line up (vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarists Eric Peterson & Alex Skolnick, and bassist Greg Christian – along with friend and former member, Paul Bostaph) to record their 9th studio album - their first in nearly a decade, entitled ‘Formation of Damnation’, (released April this year) which also won them ‘Best Album’ at the Metal Hammer ‘Golden Gods’ Awards this summer.

Having the opportunity to see 3 such important and influential bands within the world of Metal on the same bill is cause for excitement. Make sure you don’t miss the chance to witness Metal history in the making and ensure you are part of Priest Feast 2009.

‘Priest Feast’ 2009 Tour Dates

2/13 - Sheffield Arena
2/14 - Birmingham LG Arena
2/16 - Glasgow SECC Hall 4

Biography
MEMBERS:
Rob Halford (vocals)
Glenn Tipton (guitar)
K.K. Downing (guitar)
Ian Hill (bass)
Scott Travis (drums)

The definitive lineup of Judas Priest - vocalist Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, bass guitarist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis - returns in 2005 with the astonishing new album ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION on Epic Records. It was worth the wait. More than 30 years after forming in the tough, gritty, English steel town of Birmingham, Judas Priest remains at the forefront of the global heavy metal scene. The album, which was co-produced by Roy Z and Judas Priest, will be released February 28, 2005, in Europe and March 1, 2005, in North America. This album is the first new music from the quintet in 15 years, and it exceeds all expectations. ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION stands proudly alongside Judas Priest's previous heavy metal milestones like Sad Wings Of Destiny, British Steel, Screaming For Vengeance and Painkiller. Ten new Priest classics make up the album: "Judas Rising," "Deal With The Devil," "Revolution," "Worth Fighting For," "Hellrider" and lead single "Revolution." "We've got a lot of energy," says Tipton. "We're firing on all cylinders and it's obvious on this album. I think it's the most natural Judas Priest album. A lot of people who have listened to it have said it's timeless. You couldn't really date it." As for the title, Halford says, "We don't have a cut on the record called 'Angel Of Retribution' but what we do have is an amazing piece of artwork that once people see it all the pieces will connect. The artwork really has a way of connecting the past with the present and the future. It's just a great display of the power of Priest as we feel it should be appearing in 2005. Beyond that, I think we live in a time of retribution. I think we live in a time of accountability." The band members knew expectations were high, but didnt allow that pressure to affect the way they wrote and recorded the album. They worked exactly the same way they did in the past. "I think that pressure is not a bad thing, really, because it just pushes you and forces you to do your best," says Downing. The albums foundation was laid in 2003 when Halford returned to Judas Priest after nearly 12 years away. After rekindling their friendship over the previous couple of years, the band members worked together to assemble Sony Music/Legacy Recordings' career-spanning box set Metalogy. Not only that, they realized that the only way to slake their creative thirst was to reunite permanently. Judas Priest was eager to make new music together, but first the members decided to go on tour and remind fans around the world - and themselves - just what heavy metal had been missing for more than a decade. "I think the remarkable thing that's happened in these last few months of being back in each other's lives is as if the time we were apart had not taken place," says Halford. "That decade that we were out of each other's company just seems to have vanished in smoke. When we got together to begin writing the new material for Angel Of Retribution, it was really a continuation of where we would have been had we made the next record after Painkiller. All the pieces were already in place." "I have to say that I never thought I would ever be here, all these years on, doing what we do now. In some ways it seems like a brand new start for us," says Downing. "We're really looking forward to the future. We're back at full strength and having a lot of fun." By summer 2004, the bulk of ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION was completed and Metalogy was released to critical acclaim and strong sales. Judas Priest returned to the stage with several triumphant concerts in Europe and then stormed through North America with headline-grabbing performances on the Ozzfest tour and select headlining shows. Downing says that first live performance in Hannover, Germany, was a crucial step in finalizing the reunion. "It was the one thing that had to happen to really cement us back together. We'd done some songwriting, we'd done some recording, we'd had a few drinks together, but actually putting on the leather and studs and going out there and doing that first performance was something that needed to be done." Heavy metal fans had been clamoring for a Judas Priest reunion from the moment Halford left. Quite simply, the band is responsible for creating the sound of pure heavy metal. Countless others have received credit for providing the sonic groundwork, but only Judas Priest had the vision and willpower to forge a new style of rock 'n' roll and thus influence every single disciple to follow. What made Judas Priest stand out in addition to the raw power of Halford's voice and the dual-guitar attack of Tipton and Downing was the quality of the songs; they were rife with instantly memorable melodies and hooks. Judas Priest also invented the look of heavy metal; any combination of leather, studs, chains and denim is a uniform worn proudly by heavy metal fans all over the world, and they got it from Judas Priest. "The reunification of Priest is part of the love affair we've had with our fans around the world for countless decades from the past to the present time. All different generations love Judas Priest. We represent heavy metal music. We're very proud to be the leaders of this force, this genre of rock 'n' roll called heavy metal," Halford says. "We're just so re-energized now. We're so glad to be back together again, and to get that power from the fans - that passion, that love of the band, that driving force. We are here because the fans want us to be here. Without the fans that support Judas Priest, we don't mean anything." Judas Priest's success was earned as the result of struggle and hard work. Breaking out of Birmingham came first, and it wasn't easy. In fact, those lean early years - before the creation of legendary songs like "Victim Of Changes," "Hell Bent For Leather," "Breaking The Law," "Living After Midnight" and "You've Got Another Thing Comin' " - are chronicled on "Deal With The Devil." "Really, those were great days," says Tipton. "We all actually still have homes very close to Birmingham, but we needed to take our music out of there and it was very difficult to get the music industry to accept that. So we had to go and prove our point and then take it across the Atlantic to the States and then the rest of the world - to every corner of this planet. And it gave us a lot of determination. It was all about proving ourselves and taking our music to other people." Several generations of fans have a common bond in Judas Priest, and the band members are proud of that fact. "That means you got it right," says Tipton. "Obviously a lot of parents turn their kids on to Priest. But what you've got now is a lot of young kids discovering Priest in their own right. When you look out at that cross section of ages, it's very, very rewarding. Priest has created timeless music." ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION is just the beginning of Judas Priest's rebirth. "I really feel that this album is going to be viewed years from now as an absolute classic metal masterpiece," says Halford. "I think what we've created on Angel Of Retribution and what we create from this point on, will be the absolute pinnacle of our ability as writers. It achieves a new level. Everything that we do is from the gut. It's very real. We feel that we have something special here."
