Drop Dead, Gorgeous To Release 'The Hot N Heavy' June 2nd
April 16, 2009
Colorado Screamo unit Drop Dead, Gorgeous are set to return with 'The Hot N' Heavy', due out June 2 on Suretone.

Drop Dead, Gorgeous are currently on tour with Alesana debuting new songs for fans (see dates below). In June and July, the five-piece will launch a headlining U.S. trek with He Is Legend, Before Their Eyes and Then There Were None supporting.

The disc’s first single “Two Birds, One Stone” stays true to Drop Dead, Gorgeous’ patented heavy style while possibly netting the group its first bona fide radio anthem. Although the song is airwave worthy, frontman Danny Stillman explains, “We’ll never compromise our beliefs of how any of our songs should sound for the radio.” Likewise, guitarist Kyle Browning adds, “Although it’s poppier than any song we’ve ever written, it unmistakably ours.” “Two Birds, One Stone” is set to impact radio June 1. Look for more news soon on the forthcoming video for the band’s smash-in-waiting.

Joining forces with Atlanta-based producer Matt Goldman (Underoath, The Chariot, Copeland), Drop Dead, Gorgeous ups its creative ante on the follow-up to its 2007 breakthrough Ross Robinson-produced offering, 'Worse Than A Fairy Tale'. Drawing lyrically on real life experiences while fusing unexpected twists and turns to its forceful anthems, 'The Hot N' Heavy' is diverse, yet cohesive. Disc highlights include the relentless and powerful opener “Killing A Classic;” “Fame,” whose mix of haunting metal with electronic touches balance the song’s abysmal tale of drug abuse; and the stunning, “We’re Planning, God’s Laughing” which reveals an epic, emotional orchestration and closes out the disc in triumphant form.

The full track listing for 'The Hot N' Heavy' is as follows:

1) Killing a Classic
2) Southern Lovin’ (Belle of the Ball)
3) Beat The Devil Out Of It
4) Two Birds, One Stone
5) Sue Simmons! Watch Your Mouth
6) Fame
7) (The) Internet Killed The Video Star
8 ) Can’t Fight Biology
9) There’s No Business Like Snow Business
10) Interlude 1
11) Dirtier Than You Want To Know
12) We’re Planning, God’s Laughing

In the four years since Drop Dead, Gorgeous first emerged--with members then ranging in age between fifteen and eighteen--the group’s discography has been heralded in spite of its own dissatisfaction. Outburn championed 'Worse Than A Fairytale', a dark concept album with a strong cult following as “an impressive effort that never lets up on intensity” and gave it an 8-out-of-10 rating. Meanwhile, their debut, 'In Vogue', was touted by Alternative Press magazine as “an expertly mangled mélange of serrated guitars, blast beat breakdowns and sharp-tongued sarcasm.”

Having clocked in thousands of miles, bringing their incendiary and awe-inspiring performances to post-hardcore fans across the globe, these Vans Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos, Bamboozle and Saints and Sinners vets have shared stages with dozens of kindred metalcore ensembles like Every Time I Die, Aiden, Bullet For My Valentine, From Autumn To Ashes, Saosin, Senses Fail, The Devil Wears Prada, Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Haste the Day to name a few.

Drop Dead, Gorgeous w/ Alesana and I Set My Friends On Fire:
4/14 - St. Paul, MN - Station 4
4/15 - Madison, WI - Majestic Theatre
4/16 - Milwaukee, WI - The Rave

I Set My Friends On Fire Teach Kids Safe Sex
November 24, 2008
Miami’s experimental electro-grind duo I Set My Friends On Fire have done it again. The twosome have teamed up with the widely popular sketch comedy site Smosh.com to create the web phenomenon “Sex Ed Rocks,” a hilarious new song and video about the importance of safe sex. Co-written by I Set My Friends On Fire and Smosh, “Sex Ed Rocks” was posted on Youtube.com on Friday, November 21st and is already the #1 most viewed (778,134), rated, discussed (17,719 comments) and favorited video on the entire site. Check out “Sex Ed Rocks” at this location.

I Set My Friends On Fire know a thing or two about creating a splash across the web. The band made waves in 2007 with their grindcore version of Soulja Boy’sCrank Dat,” which has garnered over 9 million listens to date on their Myspace page, and is featured on their recently released debut album, 'You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter', out on Epitaph Records. Witty, bored and immensely creative, the band has put out a steady stream of webisodes, skits and even a musical!

Despite being slightly less than well-received by the music press who didn’t get the comedic irony of 'You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter', I Set My Friends on Fire are doing what they do and winning legions of young fans online and in-person. The record melds the band’s unique sense of humor (as evidenced by song titles like “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beerholder” and “Things that Rhyme With Orange”) with an onslaught of thrash angular guitar riffs, pulsing dance beats, brutal breakdowns, sassy screams and lush melodic choruses.

Kids and the curious can catch I Set My Friends On Fire live, on the band’s first tour of the US happening right now. Tour Dates are as follows:

11/25 – Knights of Columbus – Annapolis, MD
11/26 – Crocodile Rock – Allentown, PA

11/29 – New Brookland Tavern – Columbia, SC

Nabil Moo - Instruments
Backing Vocals
Matt Mihana - Vocals

I Set My Friends On Fire, hailing from Miami, FL, are the end result of a sonic mind-meld of Nabil Moo and Matt Mihana. After a couple of years playing together as We Are The Cavalry, Nabil and Matt formed ISMFOF in late August 2007, but don't be fooled by the years under their belts. These are decidedly not old music vets, but rather uber-precocious teens who started their musical journey around the same time they started high school. The duo records thusly: Matt does the singing (fueled by "plutonium and Wheaties") and Nabil does everything else, and while this division of labor may seem unfair to some, Matt and Nabil are united by their genre-defying take on music and their desire to f*ck with people.

In the beginning...

September, seemingly on a whim, Nabil and Matt decided to record a rock/screamo version of Soulja Boy's "Crank Dat" which they called "Crank Dat Cavalry Boy." Once the track hit their myspace page, it became apparent that I Set My Friends on Fire had stepped in a big steaming pile of hit. The song got upwards of 50,000 plays A DAY, so many in fact, that Myspace deleted the band's account, thinking they were using software to artificially increase their spins. In the time it took the band to remedy the situation, dozens of imposters set up phony I Set My Friends on Fire pages, and the song found its way to Limewire. To date, the track has been played over 1 million times.

ISMFOF followed up "Crank Dat Cavalry Boy" with two original tracks: "ASL" and "Beauty Is in the Eyes of the Beerholder," and recently released the new song "HxC 2-Step," which they recorded "just for fun." Total plays on the band's myspace page? Over 4.2 million and counting...and all without the benefit of a physical CD release or a record company's promotional efforts.

Being the superheroes that they are, Nabil and Matt so far have been able to write and record a song in a few days. No writers block here! Their efforts are made that much easier by the fact that they do all their recording in their house, by themselves.

The band writes: "the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive as we find out that our music is reaching all over the country (and even the world): one kid today even emailed us today and said that I Set My Friends On Fire was voted "favorite band" in his high school's 2007-08 yearbook! Others have said that our songs have been played at homecoming rallies and have spread all over their towns."

I Set My Friends on Fire so far have been the face of the new DIY movement in the digital age. On their own, Matt and Nabil were able to secure a cover story for their band in the Aquarian Weekly, and were booked on Bamboozled 2008. It is their creative self-promotion and undeniably catchy songs that caught the attention of Epitaph label owner Brett Gurewitz, who inked the band to a partnership of sorts in spring 2008. With the backing of one of the largest independent record companies in the world, whose ethics and aesthetics jive perfectly with I Set My Friends on Fire's, the sky is the proverbial limit for these two kids from Florida.

The band's debut album, You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter, melds the band's unique sense of humor (as evidence, simply read the song titles and lyrics) with an onslaught of thrash angular guitar riffs, pulsing dance beats, brutal breakdowns, sassy screams and lush melodic choruses.

"Our album is very eclectic and we feel that it will give the people something completely new," explains Nabil. "It has all kinds of styles woven in. The album is like a typical relationship gone wrong, spanning emotions that include joy, uncertainty, anger, hate, confusion, alienation, and everything in between."

ISMFOF ambush listeners from the get-go with the tumultuous track "Beauty Is In The Eyes Of The Beerholder," which pairs metal riffs and hardcore breakdowns with melodic sing along choruses. A virtual workout, physically and aurally, the album continues its relentless electro-grindfest with tracks like "Ravenous, Ravenous Rhino," "WTFWJD" and "ASL," which will have everyone spastically convulsing towards the dance floor. "Fans will find the tracks they've come to know us for, including "Crank Dat," and "ASL," but the album has many new tracks which continue the energy and songwriting that fans to come to know us for," says Nabil. "There are also more mellow tracks, including the "Interlude," which is a very chilled out instrumental break from the intensity of the rest of the album."
