Derelict Announce New Bassist
September 25, 2010
Montreal technical death metallers Derelict have announced the addition of bassist James McCallum to their lineup. McCallum has been entrenched in the Montreal metal scene for several years as the driving force behind Poison Oath, as well several other projects.

"We're excited to have James with us," says Derelict vocalist Eric Burnet, "he's a skilled player and is adding his own flavor to the 'Unspoken Words' songs. We're anxious for the fans to hear what he can do."

Below is a video of McCallum performing "Polarized" from the 'Unspoken Words' album, can be seen online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-5cWY7cnEA. The album is currently available in stores across Canada and via Relapse Records in the US.

Derelict are hard at work on the follow-up to 2009's 'Unspoken Words'. "We have six songs completed, and several more awaiting finishing touches," states Burnet. "The writing is totally comfortable as we know exactly what we're going for. We're focusing on bringing out the best and most successful parts of our style as well as exploring some new territory."

Derelict are also in the process of releasing a series of guitar lesson videos and other behind-the-scenes content, the first of which, as seen online http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW8BNKB9N08, covers a few riffs from their song Machete.

Derelict To Support Martyr In Montreal Feb 14th
February 5, 2010
Montreal based Derelict have been added as direct support to Quebec metal legends Martyrs upcoming show February 14th, 2010 at Foufounes Electriques in Montreal, Quebec. Derelict is currently touring in support of their recently released new album 'Unspoken Words', which was released by Year of the Sun Records.

"We couldn't be happier about playing with Martyr! They are one of our main influences, in terms of songwriting, technicality, stage presence and their all around live show," commented Derelict's Eric Burnet. "Martyr not only raised the bar for death metal bands in Quebec, but the Canadian metal scene as a whole. Simply put Martyr are musical masters, and playing with these guys will be an absolute career highlight for us thus far."

Derelict's 'Unspoken Words' was recorded in the metal Mecca of Canada: Montreal, Quebec under the watchful eye of Cryptopsy guitarist Chris Donaldson (The Agonist, Cryptopsy). Their brand of metallic brutality and schizophrenic musical changes has drawn comparisons to Strapping Young Lad and the legendary Death. Derelict's video for the track Machete can be viewed below.

Martyr's intricate and aggressive Technical Metal style is built on complex structures which allies a multitude of emotions from many different musical approaches. The music is not limited to the conventions of traditional metal music, the band striving to push those limits to create a more open-minded concept. The group's "Havoc In Quebec City" live DVD was mixed and mastered by Pierre Remillard (The End, Cryptopsy) and released on Galy Records. The group's DVD can be purchased online at www.myspace.com/martyrcanada.

Derelict Tour Dates:
Feb 14 - Montreal, Que @ Foufounes Electriques (w/ Martyr)
Mar 19 - Pointe-Claire, Que @ Clyde's (w/ Odium)

Biography
YEAR FORMED: 2006
HOME TOWN: Montreal, Quebec

Hailing from Montreal, Derelict strives to unite as many aspects of metal as possible into one commanding package. Although comparisons to various death and thrash metal bands have arisen (Death, Strapping Young Lad, Martyr), it is obvious upon the first listen that Derelict incorporates the brutal and progressive elements of the Quebec scene with listenable structures and melody, resulting in an unforgiving yet accessible package.

With the help of their cross-country tour in May 2008, various mini-tours through Quebec and Ontario, and support for major acts such as Ion Dissonance (Century Media), Threat Signal (Nuclear Blast), and The Agonist (Century Media), the band has covered most of Canada, all of which was done through independent self-booking and promotion.

With 2006’s Ideological Prey and 2008’s Carry the Flame, Derelict have been tirelessly seeking promotional and distribution avenues to get themselves heard. Be it through their compelling live shows, or through exposure on shows such as CHOM 97.7 FM's "The Metal File", the word is getting around that Derelict is a force to be reckoned with.

Fast forward to Fall 2008: Derelict is on the verge of releasing their new full-length, Unspoken Words. Having been mixed by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist), the disc is an aural weapon. The violent attacks and schizophrenic changes the band has always counted in their arsenal are present, as are new elements from far-ranging styles of music, proving that Derelict are constantly willing to step outside of their comfort zone.
