CKY Finishing Up New Album
January 30, 2009
CKY has completed mixing their 4th record, entitled 'Carver City', set for release on Roadrunner Records on May 19. As with all their previous albums, 'Carver City' was produced by the band’s guitarist Chad I Ginsburg. The album was recorded at Studio CIG in the band’s home state of Pennsylvania and mixed by Ginsburg and Phil Nicolo at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA. Some of the eleven tracks set to appear include: "Hellions On Parade," "The Boardwalk Body," "…And She Never Returned,” “Karmaworks” and "Woe Is Me.”

Singer Deron Miller comments, “Literally all the things that have been keeping CKY strong since our last album - the undying hardcore support of our fans, our unorthodox musical approach and a brand new partnership with Roadrunner Records - have restored an enthusiasm within our band that has never been this extreme. Sobriety, hard work, patching up inner turmoil and a love for what we do has undoubtedly made this the most collaborative and focused CKY effort to date.”

Ginsburg concurs: “The album is more inventive and more layered than our past releases, with the most melodies, textures and riffs of any CKY album. It is by far the most inspired album we have ever made."

According to Miller, 'Carver City' carries with it a “dark summer vacation vibe,” nostalgic of the band members’ childhood trips to the East Coast beaches. “The fabled town of Carver City has a history of bad luck and misfortune, all the while giving the impression that it’s a pleasant family getaway. Much like CKY's town of Hellview, Carver City's events are depicted in the songs, with story lines coming from real life events.”

CKY are planning to tour in support of their Roadrunner debut in the spring.

July 21, 2007
Cradle Of Filth, CKY and Vains Of Jenna will team up for the "Rockstar Viva La Bands 2007 Tour" featuring high-energy live rock music and a traveling video show. Another very special guest act (heavily rumored to be GWAR) will be announced later this summer. Action sports/film star Bam Margera and some of his well-known friends will also be hosting a number of the live shows.

"The 'Viva La Bands' project lets me bring music I love to my fans that might not even know some of this rock exists," said Margera. "The Rockstar Energy Drink guys totally get what I wanted 'Viva La Bands' to be all about. They are great supporters of rock music and understand that this is supposed to be more than just another concert experience. It's a new-age vaudeville show."

In addition to the four musical acts on the tour, "Viva La Bands" will be projecting over sixty minutes of exclusive video content including deleted scenes from Bam's wildly successful MTV series "Viva La Bam".

"My MTV shows sometimes don't air the really funny or risky scenes so I raided their vault and decided to put the best never-before-seen clips on tour," said Margera. "I'll also preview some behind the scenes footage from my new film currently in production, 'Minghags'."

World Under Blood Joined By Decrepit Birth Bassist
June 10, 2007
World Under Blood, the melodic death metal side project of CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller, has announced the addition of bassist Risha Eryavec (Decrepit Birth) to the group's ranks. The band's lineup is now as follows:

Deron Miller (CKY): Guitar/Vocals
Tim Yeung (Divine Heresy, Vital Remains, Hate Eternal): Drums
Risha Eryavec (Decrepit Birth): Bass

World Under Blood is still seeking a lead guitarist that resides in the Los Angeles area.

World Under Blood recently uploaded its second completed track, "A God among the Waste", to its MySpace page. The band recorded a total of three songs during its recent sessions with engineer Logan Mader (Machine Head, Soulfly): "Under the Autumn Low", "God Among the Waste", and "Dead and Still in Pain". Mixing duties are being handled by James Murphy (Testament, Death, Obituary).

James Murphy stated: "World Under Blood bridge a gap between genres that has never been bridged.... a few have tried with mixed results, but this is the first real resounding success of fusing brutal, blasting death metal with a melodic American rock vibe and it opens a door that will turn into a floodgate... I'm very happy to have been picked by Deron to mix this project ... he really pulls it together on this one musically and Tim's performance is stellar as well. Check it out!"

World Under Blood's online store is up and running, featuring short-sleeve and long-sleeve t-shirts. You can access it at this location.

Deron Miller is widely credited for conceiving the long-awaited Death tribute project, 'Within The Mind - In Homage To The Musical Legacy Of Chuck Schuldiner', as a means to help James Murphy raise money for his medical bills (Murphy is currently receiving treatment for a massive brain tumor with which he was diagnosed in August 2001).

The project, which has the blessing of the family of late Death mastermind Chuck Schuldiner (who passed away in December 2001 after a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor), has been in the works for the last couple of years and is expected to feature a number of special guest appearances, including those by members of Slipknot, Nevermore, Fear Factory, Static-X, and Malevolent Creation.

CKY is hard at work on its fifth album, to be released just in time for the band's 10th anniversary as a touring act. It will be the group's first release for Roadrunner Records worldwide.

CKY Signs With Roadrunner Records
December 8, 2006
Roadrunner Records has announced the worldwide signing of genre-defying rock outfit CKY. Formed in Pennsylvania in 1998 by Deron Miller (vocals/guitars), Chad I Ginsburg (guitars/vocals) and Jess Margera (drums), CKY's debut album 'Vol. 1' surfaced in 1999 on the indie label Volcom Entertainment, and was eventually picked up by Island Def Jam in 2001. The band's first Island Def Jam album and breakthrough 'Infiltrate-Destroy-Rebuild' came in 2002, followed three years later by 'An Answer Can Be Found'.

"CKY is a massively underrated band," says Roadrunner Senior VP A&R Monte Conner. "Everything about them screams unique, from Deron Miller's dark, melodic vocals and iconoclastic songwriting, to Chad I Ginsburg's cutting-edge production and mix techniques, to their one-of-a-kind guitar sound and rampant use of the Moog synthesizer. They simply sound like no other band I have ever heard. I've known Deron since he was a teenager and have been dying to work with CKY ever since I heard the stunning 'Infiltrate-Destroy-Rebuild' album. I am honored to finally have the opportunity to do so, with such a forward-thinking band."

Deron Miller shares the enthusiasm: "Roadrunner is one of my all-time favorite labels, so for me this partnership is very inspiring on a personal level and the fans will hear that on our next record."

Adds Jess Margera, "It's seriously an honor to be working with such a legendary rock/metal label like Roadrunner. CKY has had a great relationship with Roadrunner over the years and our signing with them seems long overdue."

"CKY has never had the rep for being an easy band to work with," affirms Chad I Ginsburg. "We've only been honest and best of all, enterf**kintaining! Believe it. That said, Roadrunner, the label with God-sized balls, has decided to take the CKY challenge! God bless 'em! So, that's two laser-sighted entities combined. Legendary. The potential is exciting to say the least. The future is purely for our enjoyment. CKY and RR let's do this."

CKY's official web site is run by their fans, The CKY Alliance (, and numbers 250,000 members strong. The band is extremely involved with the site and hence shares a close relationship with their very dedicated fans. Over the years, they have personally answered 9,500 questions from fans on the "Ask CKY" section of the site.

After the addition of new bassist Matt Deis in July 2005, CKY embarked on a rigorous touring cycle which ended this past August following a highly successful European run. After taking a much needed break, CKY has just began the conception and planning process towards what begs to be a highly labor intensive and collaborative effort. Look for new music sometime in 2007.

What happens when four exceedingly different and distinct personalities come together to create heated, inspired music? Well, as CKY have shown over their ten plus years as a rock and roll force, it can lead to intelligent, provoking riffs and lyrics, meticulously detailed production combined with magical multi-textured melodies and heady drumming. But, "it also creates tension, tension that must be let off," says the band's singer/guitarist, Deron Miller.

Not too long ago, ten years of tension caught up with the West Chester, Pennsylvania outfit. Producer/guitarist Chad I Ginsburg says the band "ended up physically beating each other up at once on their tour bus," CKY decided to take an extended timeout. "We needed a break, more than just the kind of break you think," explained Miller. A break leaving drummer Jess Margera and bassist Matt Deis wondering what future, if any, there would be for CKY."]

The band were halfway through the writing of their forthcoming album, Carver City (which was recorded and produced by Ginsburg at his new Studio CIG in Pennsylvania), CKY found itself unable to resolve internal issues, resulting in the band being put on the backburner. For an entire year, Ginsburg and Miller did not speak, nor did Miller and Margera. This extremely uncomfortable time away from the thing they loved most would allow the band to overcome the many lingering obstacles standing in the way of their greatest effort to date, Carver City, which hits stores May 19.

"We could have just said, ‘Fuck it. We're not going to finish the record.' But no one could make that decision." says Ginsburg. "When we finally got together to resume the sessions, we didn't talk about the past or what had happened. We didn't look back. The passion came back blazing, in a distinctly different, effective and inspiring way. Yeah, We took a year off by accident. But, I really think it helped the music greatly."

Carver City is CKY's first album of new material since 2005's An Answer Can Be Found, and the band's first studio offering since its split from Island Records in 2006.
"Having a studio at my house, gave me the ability to work on [Carver City] for literally several thousand hours, for two years straight," Ginsburg says. "We added a ton of new textures. Layering has always been something we've been into; guitar textures alone tend to bore us, [Carver City] is sonically, our best effort to date."

Thematically, Carver City is part fantasy, part autobiography. To assist in the completion of the album, CKY concocted the fictional town of Carver City to help them. Miller and Ginsburg inhabited this imagined municipality with notoriously bad luck with dozens of illusory characters, and even created an elaborate history behind Carver. At its heart, Carver City is a late 1970's/early 80's-era seaside resort town, much like Wildwood, New Jersey - a place Miller visited often with his family when he was a child. The song "The Boardwalk Body" was directly inspired by one such visit, when Miller says police discovered a corpse underneath the boardwalk.

"Lyrically and musically, it all reminded us of that nostalgic beach vacation feeling," Miller says.

Carver City (which features album art by Travis Smith) is perhaps CKY's most challenging and creatively gratifying endeavor to date. Conceiving Carver City and its folklore helped the band complete what was becoming an exhaustive writing/recording process, at a time when they were still recovering from their near-meltdown.  The band is back on solid ground again, back with a vengeance and a record that the band's allegiant fans will appreciate. As Ginsburg puts it "the world didn't end, CKY still exist and are better than ever."

"Trying to please each other and ourselves...that's always the challenge," says Ginsburg. "We wouldn't release a note at this point if we didn't dig what we were doing. This whole record was done basically without speaking to each other. It was just the music, and work, work, work all the time, with no bullshit. Learning to solely communicate through the music alone was tough but I know we did the right thing taking our time with Carver City."

This summer, to coincide with the resurgence of CKY and the release of Carver City, Ginsburg, Miller, Margera and Deis will be hitting the road bringing the unique energy and atmosphere that only a CKY show can.
