Nergal Returns To The Stage!
May 8, 2011
Came across this via Metal Blade's twitter...

First live performance since undergoing bone marrow transplant

Nergal has posted the following update:

"I just came off stageKatowice, Poland. It was my first performance after the transplant. I don't remember when the last time I was THAT nervous. First of all, I had to join one of my favorite bands ever, true legends, Fields Of The Nephilimsecondly, I'm still not 100% in shape so I didn't know how my body would react. I would risk saying I'm maybe 60% of what I used to bebut still progressing! Anyway, We did a song "Penetration" together with Carl McCoy and Co. What a blast I have to tell you. I had a serious adrenaline rush and it was such a boost of energy I can't even describe. My mouth dried out after 30 seconds so I could hardly breathe but the energy wouldn't let me stop. I was carried away. The moment I saw the crowd, I felt this double bass pounding underneath my feetI was in trance. I'm counting days 'til we come back with Behemoth full time. 5 months to gohuh."

Nergal Released From Hospital
January 19, 2011
Nergal, of Polish death metal powerhouse Behemoth has been released from the hospital after facing Leukemia.

Negal left the hematology division of Uniwersyteckie Centrum Kliniczne (UCK) in Gdansk on Monday, January 17th, four weeks after he underwent a bone marrow transplant procedure. Below you can find his comment:

"Hey! What's up! At last one could say. After almost half a year
of treatment in various hospitals, several cycles of chemotherapy, irradiation and a bone marrow transplant, I have been finally released home in a pretty fuckin' good condition. I'm feeling ok, taking the intensity of treatment under consideration. That was not an easy period of my life, but, as I envisioned, I left the hospital victorious. I never considered any other options, but anyway, there were rough moments too At this point I must express my thanks to the people who made all of those downs fairly bearable. My parents thank you. You deserve a monument for all your love and patience. Dorotka, thank you for your heroic attitude, love and support. I can't forget Doda's fans, who made a gigantic effort for me and other ill people. You rule! Absolutely fantastic Behemoth fans from all over the world were organizing various events to make people aware of what leukemia is. To all of you out there - my deepest respect! Thank you the real heroes - Prof. Hellmann, Dr. Piekarska, Dr. Knopinska, Doc. Giebel, Prof. Hołowiecki and all the nurses of the hematology division of the Medical Academy in Gdansk and the Oncology Clinic in Gliwice for all the professionalism and great hearts. My band mates for all the friendship and never-ending support. All my friends for sticking to me throughout the whole period of my illness. The list is too long to mention you all, but remember, you have special place in my heart."

The Behemoth front man will now go through a recovery which will last for several months. During this time he will stay in his flat in one of the Gdansk's districts.

"Although the whole treatment went really good, as well as the bone marrow transplant and the post-transplant period, the next several months is the time when I must really take care of myself. Of course I will have plenty of time to recover, think about the strategy and my return to the stage which approaches imminently (laughs). First of all however I must rebuild my physical condition apart from that, I hunger for playing, I haven't been playing the guitar for a half of year now! Really much to catch up, but also a huge motivation and a desire to work again at the same time. This year will be a really important one for me and the band!"

Behemoth's Nergal Checks In From The Hospital
November 12, 2010
Behemoth frontman, Nergal, reports in from the hospital to give us an update on his Leukemia treatments thus far.

"Hello, everyone! I'm still in the hospital but in quite a good shape so I write to let you know about my health and the further stages of treatment. I've been through four planned chemotherapies and have stayed in hospital for over 3 months now. I've gone through the whole therapy smoothly, though I also had a couple of difficult moments. All this means I have finished the stage of pharmacological treatment and I am about to start the irradiation and then the marrow transplant. Yes, we've found a donor! Having searched for months, the foundation has found a person whose genotype is identical to mine. It would have been difficult to achieve if it wasn't for the support of so many people. Most of all, I want to express my admiration for Dorota - my wonderful and devoted fiance. She did everything she could to help me and many other people, regardless of adversities and comments which were often unfair. Your help is invaluable! Thank you! I love you. On behalf of me and all other people ill I thank everyone who registered in the bone marrow bank regardless of origin, skin colour or religion. The concerts for charity have been organized all over the world and people of show business, bands and, most of all, the fans got deeply involved. You are beyond great! One of you made my transplant possible, but remember, your attitude may save many others in need. So I appeal to everyone: don't stop the madness! The march for victory continues! Horns up!'

Nergal was diagnosed with Leukemia this past July and has been undergoing treatment in Poland since then.

Biography
YEAR FORMED: 1991
HOME TOWN: Gdansk, Poland
MEMBERS:
Nergal - Vocals/Guitar
Orion - Bass
Inferno - Drums
Seth - Session/Live Guitar

BEHEMOTH have set “Evangelion” as the title of their ninth hell breaking opus. A Greek word meaning “spreading the good news” or “spreading the words of God”, its use is often related to biblical stories of the salvation of mankind, the sacrificial death of Jesua and his later resurrection. BEHEMOTH choose to use the word in it’s purest, etymological context, without any Christian connotations - the time of spreading good news has come indeed. This is the Evangelion Of The New Eon.

Representing a whole new spectrum of strength, creativity and determination, “Evangelion” is the album to undoubtedly lead this Polish mob to the peak of the extreme metal genre. Always a band for disrespecting the boundaries of self-limitation (indeed, evil has no boundaries), these metal luminaries have returned with fury and vengeance. Recorded in the band’s hometown Radio Gdansk studio with Wieslawscy Brothers and Daniel Bergstrand (drums) in the producers chair, and a stunning mix courtesy of the legendary Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Slipknot, Carcass), the final result is a beast of an album, and one that will tear any competition to shreds.

Expectations are high for BEHEMOTH with what many are citing as their breakthrough album. Indeed, the band have already stolen a Golden God at this year’s Metal Hammer Awards for “Best Underground Band”, as well as securing first place in Terrorizer’s readers polls (“Best Live Band”, “Best Vocalist”, Best Drummer”). But this is not an overnight success story. BEHEMOTH have been together for close to 19 years now. Formed by a teenage Nergal in 1991, BEHEMOTH quickly made a name for themselves in black metal circuits with early cult releases “Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic)”, “…And The Forests Dream Eternally” mini CD, and “Grom”. Third full length “Pandemonic Incantations” saw the addition of drum monster Inferno, at which point the band started to realise their full potential. Slowly evolving with increasingly impressive musicianship and songwriting, as well as ever-imporoving production values, the band amassed a solid and dedicated fanbase with such highly acclaimed albums as “The Apostasy” and “Demigod”, as well as some very high profile tours, including runs with acts such as Dimmu Borgir, Deicide, Amon Amarth, Opeth, In Flames, Trivium, Morbid Angel, Chimaira, and, most notably, 2007’s Ozzfest where the band’s unrelenting energy, savage brutality and uncompromising vision made them the breakthrough artist of the tour.

In support of their 9th full-length, BEHEMOTH will be hitting the road with Slayer and Marilyn Manson as part of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival tour, the hottest US tour of the summer, and one that is bound to see them increase their dedicated fanbase even further. Out to consistently push the envelope and top previous efforts, BEHEMOTH have with “Evangelion” delivered an extreme metal masterpiece set to drop the jaws of all who hear it. Stay tuned and beware - Evangelion is here!
