The Used Announce Nationwide Headline Tour
December 22, 2009
Fresh from a successful international run, Reprise Records artists The Used have announced a US headlining winter tour. The nationwide string of dates, which kick off January 27th in San Diego, CA and run through February 26th in Birmingham, AL, will support their new album, Artwork. Atreyu and Drive A will be supporting.

Critical acclaim for the Matt Squire-produced Artwork is effusive. Outburn (which the band recently graced the cover of) praises its "humbling ability to sound scrappy and raw while being perfectly polished and huge," while Alternative Press states "The Used have delivered not only the definitive album of their career but arguably one of the best records you'll hear in 2009. 4 ½ stars."

The band's legions of fans are responding as well. The Used performed to a sold-out crowd on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and the first single, "Blood On My Hands" premiered on iTunes with over 5k downloads in the first day, the highest digital debut in the band's history. The video for the song debuted on Myspace and shot directly to the #1 spot, with 200,000 views in the first 24 hours. The Used recently released the music video for their international single "Empty With You," directed by Nate Weaver. "Empty With You" can be seen on www.TheUsed.net

In honor of the holidays, the official Used store has marked down nearly all merchandise, including new designs. All orders of $50 or more will receive free shipping. Visit The Used's official store at www.theused.net/shop.

Atreyu Announce 'Congregation Of The Damned'
August 10, 2009
The long wait for Atreyu fans is over. The Orange County rockers have completed the follow-up to 2007’s 'Lead Sails Paper Anchor'. The album, titled 'Congregation of the Damned', produced by Bob Marlette (Airbourne, Ozzy Osbourne) and mixed by Rich Costey (Mars Volta, System of A Down, Rage Against the Machine), will be released October 26. The band will perform at the Reading & Leeds Festivals in August.

“I wrote the line ‘congregation of the damned’ for one of the songs on the album and it got me thinking,” says vocalist Alex Varkatzas. “It kind of feels like in a lot of ways that we, as members of a society, are just gathering around and collectively getting fucked over. When you look at what’s going on in our economy and how other people treat each other, it’s kind of like we’re all just lemmings. We’re lined up blankly staring blindly at nothing and just going along with the flow like a congregation of the damned. So this record really reflects my thoughts and feelings about that in every possible way.”

While 'Congregation of the Damned' addresses some dark, troubling subject matter, creating the album was far from a struggle. The band starting writing new material in January 2009 and by the time they entered Henson Studios in Los Angeles with producer Bob Marlette, they had 25 new songs. “I think this is the longest our band has ever had laser-like focus on an album,” Varkatzas says. “We were all working together really well and we had a great time in the studio with Bob, who we called BeelzeBob. He’s this jovial cigar-smoking, goatee-sporting dude from Nebraska, and he really helped us fine tune the material and nail our best performances.”

'Congregation of the Damned'
features some of the band’s heaviest riffs ever on tracks like “You Were the King, Now You’re Unconscious” and “Bleeding Is A Luxury”, but it also contains some truly delicate and sentimental moments, including piano ballad “Wait For You.” “That one’s just a beautiful song, and if you don’t like it, you don’t have a heart,” Varkatzas says. “I’d say that this album is a mix of everything we’ve ever done. For every song that’s more melodic or rock-driven there’s a total shitkicker, and I think that’s what makes us a well-rounded band.”

Besides the Reading & Leeds Festivals, Atreyu kick off a US tour with Hollywood Undead in October and will remain on the road throughout most of 2010. “The new set is gonna feature a lot of songs from 'Congregation' plus a bunch of other stuff,” Varkatzas comments. “We’re just really happy with the album and we can’t wait to play it for people live!”

'Congregation Of The Damned'
is the follow up to Atreyu’s 2007’s release, 'Lead Sails Paper Anchor', which has sold over 300,000 copies to date in the US. The disc rocketed onto Billboard’s Rock and Hard Rock Album Charts at #1 and into Billboard’s Top 200 at #8, making it the highest-charting album of the band’s career. Described by Kerrang! Editor Paul Brannigan as “stunning and irresistibly hooky”, Q Magazine went on to rate the album 4*, describing Atreyu as “a band at the top of their game”. Q Magazine later stated 'Lead Sails Paper Anchor' was one of their Top Five Metal Albums Of The Year.

Epicenter '09: So Cal rock Explosion
June 25, 2009
Southern California rock fans now have another festival to add to their calendar.

EPICENTER '09: “So Cal's Rock Explosion” will debut Saturday, August 22 at Fairplex in Pomona with Tool, Linkin Park, Alice In Chains, Wolfmother, Atmosphere, Hollywood Undead, Atreyu, Street Sweeper Social Club, Aesop Rock, Sonny and others TBA.

The annual music festival is presented by Right Arm Entertainment (creators of Ohio’s successful Rock on the Range annual festival) and will feature 12 acts throughout the day on multiple stages, with music set to kick off at 12 Noon.

“Talk about a killer lineup,” says Linkin Park co-frontman Chester Bennington. “Tool, Alice In Chains, Wolfmother--if we weren't performing, we'd come just to see all the bands. This is gonna be our only North American gig all year and we promise to make it a show to remember.”

“To introduce a new rock festival in Southern California, you have to dream big,” says Right Arm Entertainment’s Gary Spivack, co-executive producer of the festival. “Having Tool is an event in and of itself—and when you add Linkin Park's only 2009 North American concert, Alice In Chains, Wolfmother, Atmosphere and all these acts, it’s more than we could have envisioned for the first Epicenter. We’re dedicated to making this the best rock festival of the summer.”

In a musical environment that values style at least as much as substance, many bands embrace one over the other, or attempt to walk a tightrope between excessive showiness and serious, honest song craft. Atreyu have firmly established themselves on the side of solid songwriting, tight arrangements and musicianship with their previous albums, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses and The Curse. A Death-Grip on Yesterday takes their dedication to new heights with great metallic rock songs, mind-boggling guitar runs and the dynamic brutality they are known for. The album was produced in collaboration with Josh Abraham, known for his work with Velvet Revolver, Korn and Staind; it shows off Atreyus trademark incendiary guitars and soaring choruses with a thunderous rhythm section framing each track. Lyrically, Atreyu comes out swinging, with solid blows against hypocrisy, betrayal and corruption. This record is a journey for me, singer Alex Varkatzas said, It is shedding the past and growing beyond it, and all that it entails. The album was written in just two months in the fall of 2005 and with pre-production nailed down a few weeks later, Atreyu descended on Pulse Studios in the Silver Lake section of Los Angeles. The band discovered that in producer Abraham and engineer Ryan Williams they were able to deliver their songs with a whole new dimension of heaviness they had been looking for. The talents of Josh and Ryan made things sound bigger and meaner than they ever had, commented Alex. Drummer/vocalist/songwriter Brandon Saller agreed, saying, Sonically, they really knew how to get the sounds we wanted. This record was very natural for us. We just kind of poured ourselves out for this one; it came more naturally than anything weve done in the past. The album kicks off with Creature, a razor sharp track that embodies everything that makes Atreyu unique; vocal interplay that flaunts the melodic lines of drummer Brandon as they slam against the enraged roars of front man Varkatzas. The Theft builds arena-sized backgrounds of lush synth, joined by pretty guitar figures and a graceful vocal that breaks hard against Varkatzas meaty counterpoint. Exs and Ohs takes Atreyu into more traditional rock territory, with sharp hooks and a truly spectacular guitar solo that makes it from strong to colossal. While Exs and Ohs is the first single from A Death-Grip on Yesterday, Atreyu contributed an exclusive song to the soundtrack album for Underworld: Evolution, which debuted at #1 its first week with 27.6 million dollars in ticket sales. The video for Her Portrait In Black is inter-cut with footage from the movie and has enjoyed massive plays from the online sites in the past few weeks since its debut on Yahoo! Music.Atreyu exploded out of Orange County in 2002. Previously unknown to the rest of the world, the band released their stunning debut album, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses, grabbing the attention of a wide spectrum of music fans by demolishing the barriers between rock, melodic hardcore and metal. The bands original, unique music hit like a lightning bolt in hard music circles, energizing audiences and redefining the hardcore sound Southern California was known for. Critical raves poured in from publications like LA Times, Guitar World, and Metal Maniacs, who commented, the Southern California five-piece brings new definition to overnight success. Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses has scanned 230,000 units and shows no signs of slowing down.Atreyu headed home in late 2003 to write and record their second album, The Curse. The cathartic process transformed the band. We were in the van for two years, and it seemed like every time we left home, there would be a crisis with someone close to us, and there was nothing we could do to help. Eventually the van becomes like an isolation chamber in which we internalized every trauma or negative experience. Alex explains, When we came home and starting writing the album, everything came pouring out, with the intensity of something new. It was really cleansing. The Curse went on to sell 300,000 copies, with magazines like Rolling Stone calling it Pure Awesomeness. Atreyu played Ozzfest in Summer of 2004, lead a sold-out headlining world tour, and rocked the main stage at Warped 2005.With one of the top slots on Taste of Chaos Tour 2006, Atreyu are poised to reach a huge audience and captivate them with their genre-bending metallic rock. Their headlining slot on Ozzfests second stage for summer 2006 see them in front of heavy music fans across North America. Their dynamic guitar assault combines brilliant single-note leads and pummeling power chords, offset by the melodic and guttural vocals. We blend it to make a prettier dark picture, Alex comments. With their new album, A Death-Grip On Yesterday, Atreyu have honed their personal style even more, exceeding all expectations and expanding the boundaries of metallic rock yet again.
