Animals As Leaders Debut New Video
November 12, 2010
Progressive instrumental metal outfit, Animals As Leaders, have debuted their video for the track, "CAFO," exclusively at GuitarWorld.com. The track comes from their 2009 self titled debut on Prosthetic Records. The video was directed by Scott Hansen, who's previously done videos for Willie Nelson, The Devil Wears Prada, A Day To Remember, amongst others, and features animation and visual effects by AFTER (www.myspace.com/a.f.t.e.r ), who have collaborated with the band on past art and graphic design. Check it out now! (http://www.guitarworld.com/cafo)

** Would someone care to TRY and explain to me exactly what the fuck is so good about this band? Because I'm not hearing it. They use Meshuggah as a foundation, and lay melodies, leads/sweeps and synth over the top of it and this is considered 'progressive'? Seriously people... If a band/musician is THAT goddamn good, they can get over the Meshuggah worship and create something entirely unique. Then I'll gladly consider them to be progressing at anything other than misleading an entire generation of metalheads who don't know anything about Meshuggah prior to the 'Nothing' album. 'Special Defects' anyone?

Tosin Abasi Appearing At California Guitar Clinic Tonight!
May 6, 2010
Animals As Leaders mastermind and eight string guitar virtuoso, Tosin Abasi, will be appearing and performing at a guitar clinic, this Thursday, May 6 at The Fender Center, located at 365 N. Main Street in Corona, CA. Doors are at 7pm and the cost is $15.

The band recently confirmed their participation in this year's "Summer Slaughter" tour, alongside Decapitated, The Faceless, All Shall Perish and many more. This will be the second year in a row Abasi will be on the tour, as he served as a touring guitarist in Born of Osiris for much of 2009, which included last year's edition of the tour. Abasi commented:

"We're very excited about being a part of Summer Slaughter this year. I was able to experience the tour last year alongside friends Born of Osiris and to be a part of the tour this year with my own band is going to be one great Summer. Get there early!"

Animals As Leaders'
self-titled debut was released in 2009 to waves of critical acclaim. MetalSucks called it "intricate instru-metal of the highest caliber," and the album also received a 10/10 from www.PerfectProg.com and a 9.7/10 from www.Ultimate-Guitar.com. Legendary guitarist Steve Vai recently commented on Abasi and Animals As Leaders:

"When I first heard Animals As Leaders, I felt as though at last, I was hearing the future of creative, heavy virtuoso guitar playing. It's quite amazing."

The band took to the road in late 2009 and has played with acts such as Between the Buried and Me, Periphery, Veil Of Maya and The Dillinger Escape Plan, among others. You can check out tracks and several "demonstration" videos at www.myspace.com/AnimalsAsLeaders.

Animals As Leaders Guitarist To Join Born Of Osiris For Tour
May 19, 2009
Animals As Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi will join Sumerian recording artists Born of Osiris on this year's Summer Slaughter tour, which kicks of June 5 in Baltimore, Md. The seven-week traveling festival, co-headlined by Necrophagist and Suffocation, will serve as Abasi's first national tour since his former band, Reflux, disbanded in 2005.

"I'm very excited to join these guys on stage and to see all the other great bands on Summer Slaughter," Abasi says.

Earlier this year, Abasi returned to the spotlight with his new progressive instrumental project, Animals As Leaders. The group's self-titled debut, which was been hailed by MetalSucks as "intricate instru-metal of the highest caliber," is a 12-track collection of guitar-driven progressive instrumentals with ambient and electronic influences, providing a scintillating showcase for one of the finest young guitarists in rock today.

"I definitely wanted to make an album that was 'guitar-centric,' but also interesting from other perspectives," Abasi explains. He succeeded, as his dazzling performances on both 7- and 8-string guitars are flashy and technical, yet also tasteful and melodic.

Abasi recently conducted an extensive interview with AOL's metal blog Noisecreep, where the Washington, D.C.-based guitarist discussed the rise in popularity of the 8-string guitar, his playing technique and what he's trying to accomplish with Animals As Leaders. That feature can be read here: http://www.noisecreep.com/2009/05/07/talking-guitar-with-animals-as-leaders-tosin

Also, Abasi has unveiled two new video lessons in which he demonstrates his considerable talents. In addition to a performance snippet of one of the solo sections in "Tempting Time," a track currently streaming on the Animals As Leaders MySpace page, Abasi has also posted a clip called "Deconstructing 'CAFO,'" in which he details how to play one of the ascending guitar lines to "CAFO," another track from AAL's self-titled debut. Both videos have been posted at www.myspace.com/animalsasleaders.

Animals As Leaders On Oregon Radio Today
May 3, 2009
Progressive instrumentalists Animals As Leaders -- the new project of 7- and 8-string guitar wizard Tosin Abasi (ex-Reflux) -- will be the featured act on this week's edition of "Common Sense," a two-hour program that airs at 1 p.m. each Sunday on KBVR-FM in Corvallis, Ore. The show can streamed live on the station's website, www.kbvr.com.

During the program, the band's self-titled debut album -- which was released this week to extensive acclaim (MetalSucks: "intricate instru-metal of the highest caliber") -- will be played in its entirety, and Abasi will take part in a live interview.

Animals As Leaders was formed soon after Reflux disbanded, when Abasi began work on an instrumental solo project as a way to further express his musical personality. The result: a 12-track collection of guitar-driven progressive instrumentals with ambient and electronic influences that provides a scintillating showcase for one of the finest young guitarists in rock today.

With the Washington, D.C.-based Reflux, 7-string guitarist Tosin Abasi caught the attention of discerning fans with fierce riffs and fleet-fingered solos that sharpened the edge of the band's politically-minded progressive metalcore. The band's moment in the spotlight was brief, but in that time, the group built a dedicated cult following via extensive touring with the likes of Strapping Young Lad, Darkest Hour, August Burns Red, Animosity, From A Second Story Window and many more.

Soon after Reflux disbanded, Abasi began work on an instrumental solo project as a way to further express his musical personality. The resulting self-titled debut from Abasi's new band ANIMALS AS LEADERS, a 12-track collection of guitar-driven progressive instrumentals with ambient and electronic influences, is a scintillating showcase for one of the finest young guitarists in rock today.
