Abcess Calls It Quits, Autopsy Returns
June 4, 2010
After 16 years of delivering punishing, extreme heavy metal, California's Abscess has decided to call it quits. The band's sixth and final studio album, 'Dawn of Inhumanity', was released in March on Peaceville Records.

Abscess drummer/vocalist, Chris Reifert, issued the following statement:

"Greetings, sickos. We need to inform you that Abscess has officially broken up. The reason for this is that Clint Bower has left the band for personal reasons, and out of respect to him and to all who have supported us for these 16 years, we have decided to call it a day. Without Clint Bower, there can be no Abscess, so we won't even try to cheat anyone with something that is not the real thing. 'Dawn of Inhumanity' has become our final statement, and we feel that it is the perfect way to close the Abscess chapter, since we must do so. Thanks to all of you who were and still are proud to call yourselves Abscess Freaks!"

While Abscess has been officially laid to rest, the legendary Autopsy has been resurrected as a full time focus. Autopsy recently played at the eighth annual Maryland Deathfest, and has headlining performances scheduled for the Party San Open Air and the Hole in the Sky festivals this summer.

Autopsy comments, "As many of you know, for years it has been repeatedly stated that Autopsy was over with and done for good. While that was indeed true for a long span of time, it is no longer the case. Autopsy has come to the solid realization that the time is now right to resume their mission of gore soaked death metal brutality and to fulfill this mission with maximum intensity. Make no mistake about it, Autopsy is not about reliving the past, basking in nostalgia or riding on efforts from years long gone. The band is hungry to devour fresh minds and souls and has been amassing an arsenal of new and deathly material to unleash upon those who also hunger for such brutality. The surgical instruments are being sharpened and a pure death metal assault of the most horrific order is underway as you read these very words. On behalf of the band, thanks goes out to all who relented and simply would not allow this beast to remain in the grave. Your persistence will be met with unspeakable and unapologetic sonic atrocities. Let the blood flow..."

Autopsy will release a new EP, entitled 'The Tomb Within', this August on Peaceville Records. Artwork will come courtesy of renowned horror/fantasy artist, Matt Cavotta.

Autopsy's fifth full-length record, 'Macabre Eternal', is due out early next year.

Hard to believe it's been 12 years of this already. How many gallons of Jim Beam is that?

Abcess was spat forth from the gutter in June of 1994. The first demo was recorded the day OJ was making a run for it. Abcess proudly admits being banned from every club it played during the first two years of it's existence due to broken club equipment, bizzare messes made on stage and other acts of general Mayhem. Since then, Abcess has actually gotten good at what they do, constantly honing their sound while keeping the destructive adrenalized vibe going full force and remaining depraved individuals through it all.

This is a band that has NEVER followed trends or cared about what people think. They still don't...

1994.....the earth splits in two and a band of ugly drunken freaks crawls out into the vast musical wasteland that the universe itself sought out to destroy! Abscess has always wanted to start a bio like that! Now that's out of the way, we can get to the real twisted deal. With Autopsy, Hexx and Immortal Fate all still twitching and foaming in the grave, Abscess like a deranged, disease ridden phoenix rises toward underground armageddon, unleashing torrents of madness, violence and insane debauchery. The forecast was clearly for righteous craziness of the most filthy kind imaginable.

Without hesitation or remorse, four outcast sickazoids, Clint Bower(guitars/vocals), Danny Coralles(guitars), Chris Reifert(drums/vocals) and Freeway Migliore(bass) began to lay waste to studios, clubs and rehearsal rooms with reckless abandon, and for the first couple of years of existence proceeded to be banned from every venue they played. Breaking microphones, unleashing blood and other strange fluids, destroying monitors, outraging club owners, commiting assorted acts of insanity, they did it all.

In 1997, Freeway left the band to be replaced by Joe Allen who took up the task with disturbing enthusiasm. In 2000 Joe left the band to be replaced briefly by Jim Mack on bass, a local friend and true maniac. Another chaos riddled gig ensued, proving Abscess was still a sick force to be reckoned with. Eventually, Jim Mack left Abscess and in 2002 Joe Allen rejoined with no intentions of leaving the freakish fold. Abscess started honing the live set and began focusing on musical depravity a bit more than club destroying depravity. That said, you still never know just what can or will happen at an Abscess show!

Throughout all of this, Abscess has blasted out a plethora of repulsive releases with no end in sight. Be it raw gutter rockin' punk trash, deep psychedelic doom, or total skulldozing death, Abscess remains here to crush, rend and slay!
